To those that can help ...

- I have an Acer 3002JWLCi Laptop computer, Windows XP Pro SP2
- System runs very slow. Experiencing Shutdown and Lockup Problems
- The laptop is connected to a USB docking station than controls a wireless mouse and a PS2 Keyboard.
- When viewed in the Windows Task Manager, the "SYSTEM" process (not the SYSTEM IDLE process) is using up between 30 & 50% of the CPU time. "Performance" tab shows CPU usage running at 80-100% - even when system is idle.
- As the system is booting up "normally", approximately 5 seconds after the "click user name" icon appears, the laptop keyboard and touchpad become so sluggish as to be totally worthless. Keystrokes entered through the laptop only respond every minute or so. Touchpad is virtually disabled. However, the wireless mouse and PS2 keyboard connected through the USB hub work fine. In other words, I can tell that the system will be sluggish before the desktop is ever displayed.
- IF the system is booted in "Safe Mode" or "Safe mode with networking", the "SYSTEM" process runs at less than 1%, the laptop keyboard and touchpad work properly, the USB keyboard and Mouse work fine as well - the overall performance is great.

What I have done & tried:
- Ran Spybot - found about 20 problems - cleaned those up
- Ran MSCONFIG - disabled all startup procedures - disabled most services - "SYSTEM" process still using 30-50% of CPU time
- Have tried disabling some device drivers (sound, video) - but this has had no effect.
- Returned to a "normal" boot and generated the attached HiJackThis report

I think that the problem has been solved. I shut down the laptop - removed the battery - plugged in the A/C power - turned it back on - and the DPC's are gone! The laptop is a lot faster - the touchpad and the keyboard work again. I have ordered a new battery and I will confirm that that is the problem. I have noticed that in the last month or so, the battery will not hold a charge for longer than about 10 minutes - but because the computer has always been connected to AC power, this was not an issue.
