Hey Tom Coyote,
Recently I have been having problems with my Internet Explorer such that whenever I try to click on links that open new windows, such as opening mail among other things, it does not absolutely nothing. Now, I think I might some type of virus or spyware that might be exacerbating this problem, but I am not sure. I will post my HijackThis log below so that your team will be able to further aid me. Thanks.

Hello again eharri2,

Your HijackThis log looks fine, indeed not many changes since your last topic, but we can do some checks for malware:

Download Dr.WEB CureIt to your desktop from here:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/cureit.exe
  • Double-click cureit.exe to start the program.
  • Press Start and then OK to start the Express scan
  • The Express scan takes just a few moments to finish, if something is found, click Yes to cure it
  • Once the short scan has finished, Click Options->Change settings
  • Choose the Scan tab and UN-CHECK Heuristic analysis
  • Choose the Actions tab and next to Infected objects select Move, then press OK to close the settings box.
  • Note: These settings changes are IMPORTANT, please ensure you have made them before scanning
  • Select all hard drives to be scanned by clicking on them - choose all drives - a red dot confirms they will be scanned
  • Click the green arrow on the right to start the scan
  • Click Yes to all if it asks if you want to move a file
  • Click File-> Save report list and save the report to your desktop
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit and reboot your computer (this is important as files may be moved/deleted during reboot)
Download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS)
  • Close all applications and windows.
  • Double-click on dss.exe to run it, and follow the prompts.
  • When the scan is complete, two text files will open - main.txt <- this one will be maximized and extra.txt<-this one will be minimized
  • Make sure Format->Word Wrap is unchecked
  • Copy (Ctrl+A then Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your reply
Once complete, please post the Dr Web log and both DSS logs, you won't need to produce a new HijackThis log as DSS produces one for you.

Hi eharri2,

I think the Dr Web detection of "3 Months Free NetZero.exe" was probably a false positive, if you want to keep the file please let me know, otherwise get rid of it and the other detections by deleting this folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\Evan Harrington\DoctorWeb\Quarantine

Please also delete this folder:

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\SmitfraudFix

Otherwise your machine looks clean, if the symptom is still occurring I recommend you post in the Other computer problems forum here at WhatTheTech to get more help.

Please let me know you have read this and if there are any further issues.
Hey Silver, Once again, I appreciate the help very much. My computer is definitely back up to speed again. I'm pretty sure whatever DoctorWeb quarantined was slowing down my computer. Also, I have a question about something. With the appearance of those Trojans in that quarantine, that somewhat raised my concern of whether or not someone would be able to tell if they had a Trojan Dropper agent on their computer or not. Thanks. Sincerely, eharri2
