Windows XP is experiencing multiple problems: I cannot change 'Background'. Messages: "Unable to launch application. Error code=2147023174"/ "System Restore is not able to protect your computer"/ "Error using COM/OLE occurs"/ "Error- Out of memory". I cannot open Windows Media Player. I cannot sign into MSN PREMIUM even though DSL is functional and connected. Multiple desktop shortcuts will not open. Extremely slow boot with error message: "Windows cannot open file: file 4.exe…." I've tried Spybot and many others, but no cure. Minimized programs do not appear in tray. HijackThis log file is:

Hello and welcome to the forum

I don't see a anti-virus program running. Get this free one.

Click HERE and Save, Install, Update and run a full scan.

Empty Recycle Bin

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment

Note: You also need a firewall. It is important to note that you should only have one firewall and anti-virus program installed at a time, but you can download to your Desktop and install each in turn to see which one you prefer.
