Hello:
I am having this problem, eating memory: iexplore.exe launches by itself in startup. I run msconfig and nothing rare is there.
I have run a-squared, ad-aware, ewido, AVG, CCleaner, Registry Mechanic, and have cleaning some suspictius or unusued files, and after reboot iexplorer.exe is in Task Manager after startup.
In this log you can see 4 iexplore.exe opened, when I had only one webpage opened (yours), and all history and pages without connection had been deleted before run this hijackthis log. 30 Minutes later are 8 iexplorer.exe in Task Manager. To close one by one to get back memory is getting me crazy. <_<

This PC is using a shared connection as server. The client is off now.
I have tried to be as clear as possible, since english is not my native language.
Will appreciate your help. Thanks in advance!!

Hi madelco,

I have tried to be as clear as possible, since english is not my native language.

What you wrote is just fine, and if anything I post is unclear or doesn't make sense, please stop and let me know.

First, I note this line in your HijackThis log:

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{CFB89666-E985-4D83-955B-267305753D77}: NameServer = (***.hidden.***)

Did you remove the server address and replace it with (***.hidden.***) or was it like that in the log file?

Next press Start->Run, copy/paste the following command (it's one long command) into the box and press OK:

reg.exe export "HKLM\software\microsoft\shared tools\msconfig" "%userprofile%\desktop\msconfig.txt"

A file called msconfig.txt should appear on your Desktop, please post the contents in your next response.

Then, press Start->Run, copy/paste this command into the box and press OK:

cmd /c dir /a /s C:\s4262w32.dll >> "%userprofile%\desktop\find.txt"

A black box should appear and a file called find.txt should appear on your Desktop - please do not open it until the black box closes then post the contents of find.txt in your next response.

Once complete, please post the msconfig.txt and find.txt output along with a new HijackThis log.

Hello silver, thanks for your answer, I apologize because I had not seen this.. had busy days.
In fact I solved, below I will say what happened.

Did you remove the server address and replace it with (***.hidden.***) or was it like that in the log file?

I forgot to tell in my post that I replaced for security with ***.hidden.*** my server address.

A file called msconfig.txt should appear on your Desktop...

I followed the instruction to make that msconfig.txt, but only see for half a second a "flashing" window, but no more. No file in desktop, or elsewhere. Maybe I am missing something?

.... a file called find.txt should appear on your Desktop

Same behavior than the previous. No file find.txt.

But, the same file you asking to find was the culprit... s4262w32.dll. Was a trojan, now desinfected, found after two days working in PC to find the origin of multiple iexplorer. The last try was Panda online, that found this same file... and 3 more.

After cleaning I have been working with no more multipe iexplore.exe in TaskManager. I hope my PC be clean forever.

I am posting after the antivirus report, the actual hijackthis, I will appreciate if you have some advice to better security and performance of this machine.

Thanks a lot for your attention and help!!

Hi madelco,

Good to hear things are running better. You have a HijackThis entry that needs to be removed:

Open HijackThis, choose Do a system scan only and place a checkmark next to the following line:

O16 - DPF: {DF780F87-FF2B-4DF8-92D0-73DB16A1543A} - http://zone.msn.com/...ploader_v10.cab

Then close all open windows apart from HijackThis, press Fix checked, OK the prompt and close HijackThis.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

You also have infected System Restore points, clean them as follows:

Create a new, clean System Restore point which you can use in case of future system problems:
Press Start->All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Restore
Select Create a restore point, then Next, type a name like All Clean then press the Create button and once it's done press Close

Now remove old, infected System Restore points:
Next click Start->Run and type cleanmgr in the box and press OK
Ensure the boxes for Temporary Files and Temporary Internet Files are checked, you can choose to check other boxes if you wish but they are not required.
Select the More Options tab, under System Restore press Clean up... and say Yes to the prompt
Press OK and Yes to confirm

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Once complete, please post a new HijackThis log.
