Ms Excel, Windows Media Hangs And Java Wont Update

My PC exhibits some strange attributes, it is on XP.

Initially Java would not update, then Windows media player can not open media that is a video clip, it hangs on opening it and now Excel will not open either.

I have run Sophos AV and detected nothing
Have used AVG and cleaned up after it, it only found medium risk items
Have also run the free version of Adaware

and still have the same problems.

I have now generated the following files and would be ever so grateful if you could point me in the right direction.
