Hi

A "Mirror" service is something like a large server, normally run by universities. It just makes for faster downloads or something. You are always best to download from a mirror nearest to your location.

A PM is a "Private Message"

Next time you get a warning bubble, make sure your firewall and anti-virus are indeed running. If they are you can disable the warnings as described here.

If you are not comfortable with that, start a topic here.
Hi, Scotty! :D I visited the blog site on warning bubbles and it sounded to me as if he was referring to warning bubbles that pop up because he isn't using Windows firewall and antivirus yet does have a nonWindows firewall and/or antivirus. Mine actually changes around saying that it is on then off and switching between the firewall and antivirus. For instance the balloon said that my antivirus was off so I hit the balloon, Windows Security Center came up saying the antivirus was off, suddenly it changed to on and firewall was showing ON. I Xd out of it, then a balloon popped up saying that the firewall was off so I hit it and the Windows Security Center indicated that the firewall was (still) ON. Doesn't that sound like malware? So if it is malware do I still follow the directions on post#27? Do I have to open a new thread on warning bubbles? Will you still be helping me? Thank you for teaching me about Mirrors and PM (and everything)! :wavey: Kathy
Hi, Scotty! :) I read through the correspondence on the Spybot site a few times (There was a little hostility there, huh?) to try to discern if they were referring to my situation but it seems to me that they were talking of a false warning due to Windows software not detecting other security software so they would get a warning that firewall or antivirus was not detected. In my case Windows is giving contradictory warnings: it's on, now it's off - wait !pop! look, it's on again. Do you think this is the situation to which they refer? I really don't know. :wavey: Kathy
Hi, Scotty! :P

Thank you so very much for helping me, Scotty! :D This time it's my turn to crawl into bed. I am so sleepy! I just watched a movie called 47 Ronin. Good night!

:wavey: Kathy
Hello Kathy

I cant see any malware, so Im assuming it's a Windows problem. before I send you off to the tech Team for assistance, lets clean you up.

Please download CleanX-I

* Double click CleanX-II.exe then follow the prompts.
* Reboot and post the log that it creates.
Hi, Scotty! ^_^ Here's the CleanX II analysis: ####################################################################### Brontok Worm Removal Tool - (Version - 06.08.14) by sUBs ####################################################################### Current date: Sat 09/22/2007 Current time: 11:55:03.94 === PRE RUN ANALYSIS =================================== …………… === POST RUN ANALYSIS ================================== NOTE The post-run analysis portion should be empty. If it's not, reboot and run the tool a second time. ====================================================== You said that you were going to send me to the tech Team; are you giving me away? :o :wavey: Kathy
Hi kathy I think we've thrown everything possible at your computer, so it doesnt appear to be malware related. All you can do now is refer back to my all-clean post on page 3, or 4, then post in the tech Team forum for assistance. Im pretty sure they will have seen this before. Sorry I cant help further. :(
Hi, Scotty! :) You've taught me so much this past month; thank you very much!! I'll miss corresponding with you. Do I post back to you after I do the all clean? How do I post to the tech Team? My friend Lisa has a very germy PC. Can I post from her PC to get help for her? I'd be doing the cleaning for her, so do I log in and post as me or register her? She really wouldn't deal with it at all. Would you help me or is that up to chance? Now that I'm a freshman do I have enough status to send a message to say hello? (Are you too busy? I'd understand.) :wavey: Kathy
