i'm having numerous problems, i hope someone can please help me…many times when i turn my computer on i get the message that my active desk top has been disabled, i have done none things that it says i may have done for this to have happened..when i try to restore it i get the message: line : 65
char: 1
error: object doent support this action
code:0
url: file:///C:Documents%20and%20Settings/Owner?Application%
20Data/Microsoft/Internet%20Explorer/Desktop.htt

whether i choose to continue to run scripts on this page or not the result is the same, active desk top recovery reappears. i can restore my desktop by changing my background sometimes but other problems persist….when i try to open folders the hour glass appears for an extended period then whatever i'm trying to do it says (not responding)…..other times explorer closes and then everything disappears then reappears…

Hi, Sorry to hear of the problems with your machine, Although its good to know that Scotty (Mac 70) has declared (last month) your machine clean, you may have suffered some damage to your operating system as a result of the infections and now damaged or missing files are creating instability and also perhaps are responsible for the other multiple problems you are experiencing. I therefore outline below a plan of attack that you may like to consider: 1 Backup/archive/copy all important data, files, drivers, settings, your Registry and anything else valuable to you on your machine. Set up a System Restore Point 2 Locate your Windows installation disc and product license key and whilst you are doing this it would be as well to include all your application installation discs and product keys. 3 Ensure that the uninstallation of the Norton suite is complete, as any components left behind from an incomplete uninstall may conflict with your current Anti virus and firewall (I hopped over to the malware removal forum to glance at your HJT log and could see two Symantec lines that are still present, the first a BHO (an 02) and the other a line near the bottom of your log a 23, If I remember correctly.) 4 Did you visit the Symantec web site and download the specific Norton uninstall tool? To be sure of the uninstall removing all components, it would be wise to do so, and carry out a reboot after using it. 5 You may want to do another HJT scan for your own benefit after this action to satisfy yourself that the Symantec lines have now gone. (please don't sent your HJT to us, it is for your own information only. 6 After all traces of Norton have gone, run chkdsk with the f and the r switch, if problems are found the fix will be performed automatically, but after a reboot you should run it again (multiple times if necessary) until it runs clear. 7 After a reboot run the Windows protected system file checker SFC and have your Windows XP installation disc handy as Windows may ask you for this if damaged or missing files are found. 8 Your Java is out of date (it was on your HJT log anyway) it would be best to uninstall all your old versions and then download and install the latest version. 9 After the reboot do a disc clean up. ATF-Cleaner by Atribune is good. (for Win XP or 2K) Note if you delete your prefetch with ATF then your first 1 or 2 reboots may be a little slower than normal until it has been repopulated. Post back here in this thread after a reboot and let us know how you go, or if you need detailed instructions on how the above tasks should be performed. Good luck Regards paws
Hi, Ok, Have you backed up or copied all your important stuff? Have you located all your discs/product/license keys, and are they all to hand? Regards paws
