snowdrift,

Welcome to the forum, nope, your infected with Wareout.

We need to have HJT in its own folder for backup purposes, create a folder in C:\Program Files and name it HJT, then cut and paste it from the desktop to the new folder you just created.

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
FixWareout Subratam
FixWareout Lonny
  • Save it to your desktop and run it.
  • Click Next, then Install,
  • Then make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
  • The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
  • You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
  • Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
  • At the end of the fix, you may need to restart your computer again.
Save the contents of the logfile C:\fixwareout\report.txt and post it into your next reply.

Now lets check some settings on your system. For (2000/XP) Only)
  • Go to Start > control panel.
  • If you are using Windows XP's Category View, select the Network and Internet Connections category otherwise double click on Network Connections.
  • Then right click on your default connection, usually local area connection for cable and dsl.
  • Left click on properties.
  • Click the Networking tab.
  • Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS servers automatically
  • Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks.
That option might not be available on some systems

  • Next Go start> Run type cmd and hit OK
  • Type in ipconfig /flushdns then hit enter
(that space between g and / is needed)
  • Type exit hit enter

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{1B95DBEC-3775-4236-8BDB-DA38433A39D8}: NameServer = 208.67.222.222,208.67.220.220
O17 - HKLM\System\CS1\Services\Tcpip\..\{1B95DBEC-3775-4236-8BDB-DA38433A39D8}: NameServer = 208.67.222.222,208.67.220.220
O17 - HKLM\System\CS2\Services\Tcpip\..\{1B95DBEC-3775-4236-8BDB-DA3843rA39D8}: NameServer = 208.67.222.222,208.67.220.220

Hello. Thanks for writing. I set my DNS servers to those two IPs (208.67.222.222, 208.67.220.220) myself. They are OpenDNS (https://www.opendns.com) servers. Is that what you're calling WareOut?

This may be legit if you know about it. I guess I was erroring on the cautious side, a previous log I worked had the same entries and he was from England and knew nothing about them and was indeed infected with Wareout. Most other helpers and mods on this forum and all other forums have been removing those entries. So I can only suggest you run Wareout and remove those entries but this ofcourse is entirely up to you.

So if you say you set them and know about them then leave them be, the rest of your log looks fine .

How did I get infected in the first place ? Read these links and find out how to prevent getting infected again.

Safe Surfn
Ken

Thanks, Ken. Yes, I do know about them. May I invite you to use OpenDNS for your own DNS resolution? They are great! They can filter adult sites, phishing attempts, and even correct typos in URLs. They are legit and highly recommended. I do thank you for looking over my log. I tend to be paranoid some and am pretty safe usually. I just wanted someone else to verify my whole log. Between using Firefox with non-admin. permissions and SpywareBlaster, I feel pretty good. I am not the avg. "computer" bear, though. Thanks again.
