[Purplexion]

Hello. I was here about a year ago and have been fairly clean since then. Recently, my download speeds have dropped (comcast...from 3Megs/sec to under 1 according to test sites) and have had a gaming website shut my account down temporarily for what they said was multiple IPs. The only other symptom I notice is a webpage will occasionally hang before loading completely. I am not too happy with Java and suspect it has been a culprit, not to mention the 10k files it forces my scanners through. ><

I have used Spybot S&D, SpywareBlaster, AVG, and ZoneAlarm since my time here last year. I ran all of the above plus AdAware within the last 48 hours. I have also read and performed the steps in LDTate's 'before you post' sticky, although I have had trouble configuring AVG using those instructions. I assume it has changed since that was written or I'm just being terribly dense.

I'm not in an emergency situation here, but I have done all I know how to clean things myself. I was hoping one of you folks would be nice enough to review my HJT log and/or other to see if I'm clear. Thanks.

Welcome back, your log looks fine

*NOTE* CCleaner deletes EVERYTHING out of temp/temporary folders. If you have anything in a temp folder, back it up or move it to a permanent folder prior to running CCleaner!

Download CCleaner from here to clean temp files from your computer.

• Double click on the file to start the installation of the program.
• Select your language and click OK, then next.
• Read the license agreement and click I Agree.
• Click next to use the default install location. Click Install then finish to complete installation.
• Double click the CCleaner shortcut on the desktop to start the program.
• On the "Windows" tab, under "Internet Explorer," uncheck "Cookies" if you do not want them deleted. (If deleted, you will likely need to reenter your passwords at all sites where a cookie is used to recognize you when you visit).
• If you use either the Firefox or Mozilla browsers, the box to uncheck for "Cookies" is on the Applications tab, under Firefox/Mozilla.
• Click on the "Options" icon at the left side of the window, then click on "Advanced."
  deselect "Only delete files in Windows Temp folders older than 48 hours."
• Click on the "Cleaner" icon on the left side of the window, then click Run Cleaner to run the program.
• Caution: It is not recommended that you use the "Issues" feature unless you are very familiar with the registry as it has been known to find legitimate items.
• After CCleaner has completed its process, click Exit.

Hiya ken545. Thanks for looking at my log. Unless I have a bug that is dodging HJT by name during the scan somehow, I'm not worried about malware as much now that someone familiar with the signs has seen the log. Looks like I get to be baffled in a new way now. I'll read all the links I haven't been through, yet, thoroughly. Thanks again. Btw, to anyone else reading this.....If you follow what these guys suggest it really does work. I've been clean for over a year now, though I have caught several things trying to get me. ---Purp

Your welcome Purp, here are some more programs to install. Just remember to keep your windows operating system patched with all the latest windows updates. Only install one AV Program and only One Firewall or else they may conflict and slow down your system.

• Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
  Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  
• Ad-Aware 2007 7.0.1.5
  Check for Updates and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  
• Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed.
  
• Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  
• Win Patrol This program will warn you when any changes are being made to your system and give
  you the option to deny the change.
  
• IE-Spyad
  IE-Spyad places over 4000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads
  (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  
• Firefox 2.0 It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and
  painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.
  
• Zone Alarm Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs, I
  wouldn't access the internet without it.
