Still have the notepad issue..Took out Yahoo AV. Can't take out the EZ because it is attached to Dll's. Set a restore point then deleted them all and lost all internet connectivity. I can't install Panda without gettin rid of EZ..It still gives me the same message that it can't install due to compatibility issues w/ Ez… My comp's back to running HORRIBLY slow. I thinkin about just chuckin' it out the window. HAHA… Takes forever for internet to pop up as well as opening ANY programs. Freezes a lot when I need to use Java etc etc. I don't know what the problem is and I seriously hate computers right now. Sorry I took so long to respond. We had a death in the family and no one's taking it well including my 4 year old so I haven't spent a lot of time on the computer lately.
Hi,

Sorry to hear about your loss. And sorry to hear things are not better with the computer. Let's get another log that may shed some light on what's happening here.

Download WinPFind3U.exe to your Desktop and double-click on it to extract the files. It will create a folder named WinPFind3u on your desktop.
  • Open the WinPFind3u folder and double-click on WinPFind3U.exe to start the program.
  • In the Processes section select None
  • In the Win32 Services select All
  • In the Driver Services select None
  • In the Registry select None
  • In the Files Created Within group click 30 days
  • In the Files Modified Within group select None
  • In the File String Search group select None
  • Under Addidtional scans Check the following boxes
    Non -Microsoft Only
    Reg-ContextMenuHandlers
    Reg-ControlSets
    Reg -Security Settings
    Reg - Software Policy Settings
[*]Now click the Run Scan button on the toolbar.

[*]When the scan is complete Notepad will open with the report file loaded in it.

[*]Click the Format menu and make sure that Wordwrap is not checked. If it is then click on it to uncheck it.

Use the Add Reply button and Copy/Paste the information back here. I will review it when it comes in.

Sorry for the delay. Not seeing anything significant there.

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt – please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.
Well I think I know what those Notepad files that are opening are. desktop.ini files. Is that what it says up in the top left corner of the screen next to Notepad? They are small text files that dictate how your icons look on your desktop, ect… Harmless little files. Why they show up when you start your computer up is still beyond me but I think we're getting warmer. Still want you to run the Deckard scanner and let me know if that's the name of the files. Dave

Yikes! You have picked up some new Adware in the last couple of days. Did you knowingly install the following items? Adssite Browser Optimizer Rightonadz Browser Optimizer Please let me know. I'll advise cleanup once you do.
I got distracted and forgot to re-boot afte rmy last reply sorry. I will do that before I go to bed tonight. As for the optimizers, nope I didn't put them on there.
Post a fresh HJT log to look at as last time there were a couple of new "nasties" that needed to be dealt with that you said you did not put there.

Hi blw1084,

Well I'm not sure where those new Browser Optimizers came from but I don't believe they were there when we started.

STEP 1:

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing so please:
* Click Start.
* Open My Computer.
* Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
* Select the View Tab.
* Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
* Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
* Click Yes to confirm.
* Click OK.
Please reverse this process once the fix is complete.

STEP 2:

Go to Add or Remove Programs and uninstall the following if present.
Click Start > Control Panel > Double Click Add or Remove Programs:

Adssite Browser Optimizer
Rightonadz Browser Optimizer
Or anything related to these two programs

STEP 3:

Run HijackThis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\system32\Userinit.exe
O2 - BHO: rightonadz.biz browser optimizer - {36A91CEC-6C71-4758-B492-397BFC8E96A2} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\gzmrotate.dll
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C8B2A36-3DB1-42A4-A3CB-D426709BBFEB} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: adssite - {F31B3634-12AA-41ca-B021-0685C3B3E4CA} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\nsc7.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [adstart] C:\WINDOWS\System32\Rundll32.exe "C:\WINDOWS\system32\gzmrotate.dll" DllVerify

Then close all windows except this one and press Fix checked.

STEP 4:

Using Windows Explorer delete the following files in bold if found (they may be gone but want to make sure):

C:\WINDOWS\system32\gzmrotate.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\nsc7.dll
