Hi Everyone,

I have noticed recently that my computer has been running much slower than usual and has odd lag times when I try to open programs. I have looked through several of the forums that deal with Hijackthis help and chose this one because this forum doesn’t seem to require that I uninstall the antivirus and spyware blocking apps that I already have in order to replace them with freeware or trial versions. Many of the others require that you install several applications before posting.

I have McAfee Security Center 7 and Spyware Doctor. I have used them for a good while and I am familiar with them. I don’t really want to have to install a freeware version of anti spyware and virus tools when I pay yearly for the ones I have, unless it is absolutely necessary. These forums don’t seem to require that I install these before posting, which I think is great.

Anyway, like I said, my computer is relatively sluggish lately and I don’t know why. I ran the Hijack This program and it seems like I have more entries than I did just a few weeks ago. I don’t know what any of them mean though, and the program suggests asking for help, so I came here. I’d really appreciate it if someone could take a look at this file and let me know if I have been infected. Thank you very much in advance for any help at all .:-)

Howdy cdh123,

Welcome to Tom Coyote. No infection showing here. I am familiar with most of the malware removal assistance forums and don't really know any that might mandate legit software removal, unless it is a duplication of use like having two antivirus programs on one pc. Looks like the majority of what might be considered not essential software loading and also at times considered resource users as well are the clone/burn programs showing, so perhaps you might consider disabling some from startup (if possible) or then yes uninstalling some of those.

Let's run a cleaner then take one different look to be sure here. Go Here and download ATF cleaner. Click on the downloaded file to run it, and select "Select All", then click Empty Selected (and close ATF).

If you have them, also click on Firefox/Opera at the top and repeat the steps (and close ATF). Firefox/Opera will need to be closed first for the cleaning to be effective.

Also Go Here and download Silent Runners to your desktop. Run it, and post back here the log it creates. If your AV queries the script, allow it to run. It's not malicious. It will create a file named Startup Programs, and will notify when the scan is complete. Copy the log from the Startup Programs file back here. You can use separate posts if needed.
Hi Jintan,

Thanks for checking out my log file, I really appreciate it. I downloaded the ATF cleaner, ran it (cool tool btw!). I also grabbed Silent Runners (another nice tool) and ran that. I‘ll post the file for that here. Thanks again for your help!

Nothing nefarious showing. Although you mention having the same paid for protective softwares for quite some time, gonna have to assume you have been good about updating them when any come available, and Spyware Doctor has upgraded it's services functions quite a bit in recent times. Have you tried disabling Spyware Doctor to check on how that effects things? Especially with a fully installed McAfee protection package, which will have overlapping areas of protection with any other security software almost.
Well, that’s a big relief to know that my computer isn’t infected. I have been worried about it since I downloaded and installed a few programs trying to find a way to put video media on an mp3 player. I have been keeping the updates up to date. The problem seems to have somewhat alleviated itself. Maybe the computer being slow had something to do with the antivirus and spyware programs needing an update or something like that, since there isn’t any indication of malware. Like I aid, it is a big relief that it seems ok. Well thank you very much for your time and expertise, I very much appreciate it.  Sincerely, cdh123
