Hi, I have become fairly adept at removing malware and viruses from peoples computers. What I have here now is a computer that I cleaned of WinAntiVirus2007 and numerous common adware (MyFunWeb, MyWebSearch, etc.). AVG keeps detecting this one file called wuaclt.exe. AVG results says its located in C:\Program Files\T?sks\wuaclt.exe (yes, with the question mark in it).. It deletes it every time but it returns. Maybe it's just an anomaly? I'm aware of the Windows XP update program that uses the name wuauclt.exe. Please tell me what you think if possible. Thanks very much. Tomcoyote's site is the best.

I'm sorry for this but I rebooted the computer and rescanned with Hijackthis. AVG had just deleted the suspect file. Here is the Hijack log after a reboot.

Hello ShadowdogKGB :)

My name is SNOWHITE and I will be helping you with your Malware problem.

PLEASE READ THIS POST COMPLETELY, IT MAY MAKE IT EASIER FOR YOU IF YOU COPY AND PASTE THIS POST INTO A NEW TEXT DOCUMENT OR PRINT IT FOR REFERENCE LATER

Please follow the steps below exactly in the order they are written:

Step #1

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop
  • Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
  • Click the Scan for Vundo button.
  • Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
  • You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
  • Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
  • When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
  • Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log in a reply to this thread.
Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove. In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from "Click the Scan for Vundo button" when VundoFix appears upon rebooting.

Step #2

Please download Deckard's System Scanner (DSS) and save it to your Desktop.
  • Close all other windows before proceeding.
  • Double-click on dss.exe and follow the prompts.
  • When it has finished, dss will open two Notepads main.txt and extra.txt -- please copy (CTRL+A and then CTRL+C) and paste (CTRL+V) the contents of main.txt and extra.txt in your next reply.

In your next post please include the following reports:
  • VundoFix report
  • dss scan reports main.txt and extra.txt
Let me know how the things went.

Regards,
SNOWHITE
