I am helping a friend who is having Outlook problems and said her system has blocked several Trojans. I installed Zone Alarm and the desktop went solid blue with no error message. Restored to a previous day and got desktop back. Another Trojan was blocked as I was on the computer so thought I had better ask the pros before installing the firewall again.

Thanks in advance,

Gwendolyn

Howdy Gwendolyn,

Did you try to install Zone Alarm with Trend Micro's software and firewall active, and also Windows defender running? regardless of infection these alone could have led to unwanted actions like what you experienced. Post back what files and locations these trojans are being found as, as well as the following scan log.

Go Here and download Silent Runners to your desktop. Run it, and post back here the log it creates. If your AV queries the script, allow it to run. It's not malicious. It will create a file named Startup Programs, and will notify when the scan is complete. Copy the log from the Startup Programs file back here.

We had the Vundo Trojen. So ran the VundoFix. See log below. Also removed Trend Micro and Windows Defender. Replaced with AVG.

Also below is the Silent Runner log.

Thanks,

Gwendolyn

Good enough guess on that, but be sure now to only stick with the steps we discuss here. Let's move on what is here now. First need is to disable some software that might block positive changes we make.

If it is enabled, please disable SpywareGuard, as it may hinder the removal of some entries. You can re-enable it after you're clean.
To disable SpywareGuard:

Right click the running icon of Spywareguard, it will open the program.
Then go to Menu, file, exit.
Then confirm the program is closed.

Also disable Trojan Hunter Guard, as it may interfere with the fix.

To disable Trojan Hunter Guard:
Go to TrojanHunter Guard in the lower right corner of your screen. It is a light blue icon with a magnifying glass that can be difficult to see but the handle is red.
Right click it and select settings. Uncheck "Load at startup" and "Enabled".

Download ComboFix.exe from here to your desktop, and click the downloaded file to run the repair.

When the command window opens, select 1 (and Enter). Allow the scan to run. When completed a text window will appear - please copy/paste the contents back here. This log can also be found at C:\ComboFix.txt.

A caution - do not touch your mouse/keyboard until the scan has completed. The scan will temporarily disable your desktop, and if interrupted may leave your desktop disabled. If this occurs, please reboot to restore the desktop.

Then post back the combofix.txt log along with a new HijackThsi log please.
