I have a 2 month old computer that has been running great. A few days ago I received an email from Webroot saying that there was a new release to fix Vista conflicts, so I downloaded it. The following morning Spysweeper found a Trojan. The Trojan was deleted, but I don't know what name it was. Since then my system has been slow, hanging frequently and not displaying pages. I don't know if it is an issue with the new Spysweeper version or if I still have something on my system.

I have run McAfee Virus and Spyware, Spysweeper, Windows Defender, Spybot and AVG, but all that is being caught are a few tracking cookies. I ran PC Pitstop and everything was OK. I have run Startup Lite and disabled all unnecessary start up items. I have run ATF to clean any files and I have run Defrag. I have pasted copies of my Hijackthis scan and my AVG scan. I would be grateful if someone could look at it and tell me if there is anything there that shouldn't be.

Thank you!

Hi CMDMOM,

Your logs look fine although its concerning that a trojan was found. If you can find any information from the Spy Sweeper event history/log please post it in your next response.

The startup items you have disabled in Startup Lite don't appear in your HijackThis log and I'd like to check them for malware, so please post details of what you have disabled in your next response.

Please do a scan to double-check for malware:

Download Dr.WEB CureIt to your desktop from here:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/cureit.exe
  • Right-click cureit.exe and choose Run as administrator to start the program. Allow the UAC prompt.
  • Press Start and then OK to start the Express scan
  • The Express scan takes just a few moments to finish, if something is found, click Yes to cure it
  • Once the short scan has finished, Click Options->Change settings
  • Choose the Scan tab and remove the check mark from Heuristic analysis
  • Choose the Actions tab and next to Infected objects select Move, then press OK to close the settings box.
  • Select all hard drives to be scanned by clicking on them - choose all drives - a red dot confirms they will be scanned
  • Click the green arrow on the right to start the scan
  • Click Yes to all if it asks if you want to move a file
  • Click File-> Save report list and save the report to your desktop
  • Close Dr.Web Cureit and reboot your computer (this is important as files may be moved/deleted during reboot)
Once complete, please post the Spy Sweeper and Startup Lite information, the Dr Web log and a new HijackThis log.
