Ok so i normally just system restore my computer when i have bad virus's like these. But i havent for a long time and seeing as its a family computer (Used by six people) and the computer is used quite a lot , It is really annoying having to save important files to external harddrives and discs as there are so many we want to keep.

First things first. I get popups even with a pop up blocker and i noticed that this most be a virus as almost every internet window i open a popup comes up. I have scanned with Mcafee (Which is the latest version as i have suscribed to it), webroot and around 10 other free online virus scanning software or spyware software and cleaning programs but nothing has worked. They have all picked up around 10 virus's each and delited them fine but the popups are still here. And it is making my computer very slow (Only if i'm online). In which it normally is not.

I can remember having a virus along something of the line of VSB gedza.A (something like that)

I have delited various worms

And a thing called Smitfraud keeps coming up when i scan with one program and when i clean it, it returns after the next scan. When i find out what program i am using which is showing this i will edit this post.

Here is the log i have from HijackThis:

Hello Verdelet and welcome to the TomCoyote Forums

My name is Trevuren and I will be helping you with your problem.

A. Some trojans have a way of masking their presence from the HijackThis program when they recognize the name. I think that this is the case here because there are no 02 or 020 entries visible in your log.

Please locate the following file on your desktop: HijackThis.exe
Next, right click on the file and from the popup menu that appears, chose the RENAME option and rename the file Killer.exe.

From now on, when I ask you to start HijackThis, just click on the Killer.exe file.

B. Please download this file - combofix.exe by sUBs
  • Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
  • When finished, it will produce a log. Please save that log to post in your next reply along with a fresh HJT log.
Note:
Do not mouse-click combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

Regards,

Trevuren
I just want to say thanks a lot for helping me out Trevuren. Although my problem has changed.

I decided to just go for a system restore keeping my old files in a folder called "My old Disk Structure – 07-07-02 0946PM". I think you will know what i mean then i say that. Although this was a complete waste of time as i forgot to go to the control panel and remove all the passwords of the accounts, as they re still on and access is denied (i also cannot the whole folder).

Secondly i think the same virus is still in the system or whatever i had as the popups have returned, once again i dont think i have been doing anything wrong but i do not know what the other users have been doing. Here is my new updated log which i have just saved.

I also am very sorry about not updating you about the situation as i completely forgot about this site after system restoring the computer. I have also been very busy. Am i also not sure if what you said before will apply this time with this log and this is why i have posted it again.

Many Thanks.
First download AVG AntiSpyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program
  • Once you have downloaded AVG AntiSpyware, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  • Once the setup is complete, run AVG AntiSpyware and update the definition files.
  • On the main screen select the icon "Update" then select the "Update now" link.
    • Next select the "Start Update" button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the "Scanner" icon at the top of the screen, then select the "Settings" tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on "Recommended actions" and then select "Quarantine".
  • Under "Reports"
    • Select "Automatically generate report after every scan"
    • Un-Select "Only if threats were found"
Close AVG AntiSpyware, Do Not run a scan just yet, we will shortly.
  • Reboot your computer into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight SafeMode then hit enter.
IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while AVG AntiSpyware is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning proccess:
  • Launch AVG AntiSpyware by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the "Scanner" icon at the top and then the "Scan" tab then click on "Complete System Scan".
  • AVG AntiSpyware will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select "Apply all actions"
  • Next select the "Reports" icon at the top.
  • Select the "Save report as" button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system (make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important).
  • Close AVG AntiSpyware and reboot your system back into Normal Mode and post the results of the report scan along with a fresh HJT log for review.
