The fake security center i believe is spyware, it can't be removed the uninstall function just resets my PC. Also it redirects my Internet browser to a website that has nothing but ads for spyware blockers "http://www.spycrush.com/?aff=334", i believe its located in a file called "Video ActiveX Access" but that is undeletable also. There is also a "Security Toolbar that has been installed on my browser window. I have lavasoft Adaware and Norton Antivirus, if that is of any help. Your advice would be muchly appreciated.

Hi, and welcome to the forums! :wavey:

I'm Ben, and I'm going to try and help you with your computer problem. Forum administrators will be checking my recommendations before I post them here, so there may be a slight delay between posts.

The fixes I'm about to suggest are specific to your problems and should only be used for this issue on this machine. They are not blanket fixes!

Here are some guidelines to follow during the repair process:

1. Please only use this topic to reply to. Do not start another thread!
2. If any other issues arise during the repair process, please let me know.
3. The process is not instant. Please continue to review my posts until I tell you your machine is clear. Remember, the absence of symptoms does not necessarily mean that everything is clear.
4. If you decide to seek help at another forum let us know. There just aren't enough helpers out there and tying 2 of us up is a waste of time.
5. If you have any questions about any advice given here please STOP and ask!
Thank you for your help it will be much appreciated. i tried running smitfraudfix in safety mode and it seems to of cleared the symptoms of the problem ie: the folder is no longer there, the taskbar has gone as well as the security messages and internet rerouting.
benmphill,

SmitfraudFix was going to be *one* of the fixes I was going to recommend, but we weren't quite ready to do it just yet… Let's see what happens with this fix…

It appears you have a few infections to remove. Let's dig in and see if we can't get them off of your computer. You'll need to either print these out or save this in Notepad as you'll be rebooting into Safe Mode where Internet access won't be available.

First off, let's get rid of one called WinTools:

Step 1: Reboot your computer into Safe Mode

Step 2: Only for XP/2000/NT
Click on Start, then Run, and type: services.msc
1. Press the OK button.
2. Scroll down till you see the service named "Wintools for IE Service".
3. Double-click on the service name, click on the "Stop button" and change the "Startup type" to Disabled.
4. Exit the services window.

Step 3: Press Cntrl-Alt-Delete and end the following processes by clicking once on them and then clicking the End Process button:

WToolsA.exe
WToolsS.exe
WSup.exe

Exit the Task Manager when done.

Step 4: Open a command prompt by clicking on Start, then Run, and typing the following based on your operating system:

For Windows 9x/ME type: command.exe
and press the OK button.

For Windows XP/2000/NT type: cmd.exe
and press the OK button.

You will now be in a command prompt.
type: regsvr32 /u /s "C:\Program Files\Toolbar\toolbar.dll
Press the Enter key on your keyboard.
type: exit to close the command prompt.

Step 5: Now delete the following directories [folders]:

C:\Program Files\Common Files\WinTools\ <– this folder
C:\Program Files\Toolbar\ <– this folder

Step 6: Run Hijackthis and fix all entries that contain WinTools in them.

Step 7: If you are using Windows XP/NT/2000 click on Start, then Run, and type: regedit
Press "OK" to open the registry editor and navigate to the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services

Click on the services key so you see a list of the services in the right section. Scroll through those services till you find one that has WinTools in it and right click on it and delete the WinTools service.

Step 8: Reboot your computer and Wintools should be gone. Run Hijackthis and post a new log.

We'll work on the others afterwards. :)

You mentioned that you ran SmitFraudFix. I'm going to have you run it again, just to make sure you are doing it correctly and get rid of the malware that's present – plus, there's a file I'll need to see.

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.
http://siri.urz.free.fr/Fix/SmitfraudFix.zip
Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.

c:\rapport.txt

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Afterwards, please post: C:\rapport.txt
