IE has a redirect to url.cpvfeed.com and revenue loop. While Google blocks the popup from opening, a blank page with the url.cpvfeed.com address appears.

How do I scan, detect, and delete the malware?

You need to post a HijackThis log. If you don't have HijackThis, you can download the current version from here and save it to a convenient location. This is a self-executing file, so just double-click the file and it will install itself in its own folder.

Start HijackThis, click "Do a system scan and save a logfile" - Notepad will open with the log. Copy and paste the contents in your reply.

Hi -

You did not extract HijackThis properly. You are currently running HijackThis from a Temp folder which means that the program along with the backups it makes will be deleted when your Temp folders are cleaned. You can either make a HijackThis folder on your C:\ drive and move HijackThis.exe and the folder "backups" over to the new folder, or you can download the current version from here and save it to a convenient location. This is a self-executing file, so just double-click the file and it will install itself in its own folder.

You have two firewall programs installed. You should only have one firewall software program installed. Since eTrust is part of your AV program, I believe that it would be easier to disable ZoneAlarm. To uninstall ZoneAlarm, follow these instructions here:
http://forums.zoneal...;message.id=103

Also, you will need to print these instructions because you will be working in part in Safe Mode without an Internet connection. Follow them in the order stated.

• Open HijackThis, click Open the Misc Toos section, then click Delete a file on bootup
- a window will open
- Where it says "File Name" - copy and paste: C:\Windows\System32\winccf32.dll
- Click Open
- A prompt will appear advising you that the file will be deleted and asking if you want to reboot now
- Click Yes
- Your computer will now reboot.

• Please set your system to show all files.
- Go to Start > open My Computer
- Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
- Select the View tab and, under Hidden files and folders, select Show hidden files and folders
- Uncheck Hide file extensions for known file types
- Uncheck Hide protected operating system files (Recommended)
- Click Apply, then OK

• Reboot into SAFE MODE
To get into the Windows XP Safe Mode, restart your computer and, just before Windows starts to load, tap the F8 key a few times. Choose Safe Mode from the menu that will appear and press Enter.

• Start HijackThis, click System Scan Only and place a checkmark next to the following items:
F2 - REG:system.ini: UserInit=C:\WINDOWS\system32\userinit.exe,,winwork.exe
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {1B8EA709-EF70-47F2-BBAF-1129CB367AE3} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awtqr.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {B71FA585-B351-4E48-8DA8-22F6F705EC73} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\xxyvspm.dll (file missing)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {CD3447D4-CA39-4377-8084-30E86331D74C} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\tmednkpm.dll (file missing)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [novsvida.exe] C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\novsvida.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [{3A-AA-A4-4C-ZN}] C:\windows\system32\dwdsregt.exe CHD003
O4 - Startup: TA_Start.lnk = Local Settings\Temp\TICHD003.exe
O15 - Trusted Zone: *.errorsafe.com
O20 - Winlogon Notify: awtqr - C:\WINDOWS\system32\awtqr.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: winccf32 - winccf32.dll (file missing)
O20 - Winlogon Notify: xxyvspm - xxyvspm.dll (file missing)

Close ALL browsers and open windows/programs leaving just HijackThis and click 'Fix Checked'.

• Navigate to and delete the following files:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\novsvida.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dwdsregt.exe
C:\WINDOWS\svchost.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\<<your user profile>>\Local Settings\Temp\TICHD003.exe

• Reboot into NORMAL MODE

• Download and scan with CCleaner.
1. Starting with v1.27.260, CCleaner installs the Yahoo Toolbar as an option which IS checkmarked by default during the installation. IF you do NOT want it, REMOVE the checkmark when provided with the option OR download the toolbar-free Basic or Slim versions instead of the Standard Build.
2. Before first use, select Options > Advanced and UNCHECK Only delete files in Windows Temp folder older than 48 hours
3. Then select the items you wish to clean up.

In the Windows Tab:
  • Clean all entries in the "Internet Explorer" section.
  • Clean all the entries in the "Windows Explorer" section.
  • Clean all entries in the "System" section.
  • Clean all entries in the "Advanced" section.
  • Clean any others that you choose.
In the Applications Tab:
  • Clean all entries in the Firefox/Mozilla section if you use it.
  • Clean all in the Opera section if you use it.
  • Clean Sun Java in the Internet Section.
  • Clean any others that you choose.
3. Click the "Run Cleaner" button.
4. A pop-up box will appear advising this process will permanently delete files from your system.
5. Click "OK" and it will scan and clean your system.
6. Click "exit" when done.

• Download Superantispyware
  • Load Superantispyware and click the check for updates button.
  • Once the update is finished click the scan your computer button.
  • Check Perform Complete Scan and then next.
  • Superantispyware will now scan your computer and when its finished it will list all the infections it has found.
  • Make sure that they all have a check next to them and press next.
  • Click finish and you will be taken back to the main interface.
  • Click Preferences and then click the statistics/logs tab. Click the dated log and press view log and a text file will appear.
  • Copy and paste the log in your next reply.
• Please download ComboFix from one of the following links:
http://download.blee...Bs/ComboFix.exe
http://www.techsuppo...Bs/ComboFix.exe
- and save it to the Desktop.

1. Double click on combo.exe and follow the prompts.
2. When finished, it will produce a logfile located at C:\ComboFix.txt.
3. Post the contents of that log in your next reply with a new HijackThis log.

Note: Do not mouse-click ComboFix's window while it is running. That may cause your system to stall/hang.

• Post back with the log from Superantispyware, the ComboFix.txt log and a new HijackThis log.
