t seems that my email address has been picked up by a spambot and is being used to register for forums all over. I've tried backtracking through the headers and notifying the upstream ISPs of the AUP violation but as of yet I haven't seen any results and not too many real replies, either. Having worked at an ISP and being on the receiving end of these emails, I'm not too surprised, given the volume of them. I'm getting about 10-20 of these per day. I can ignore them with the best of us but I really don't want an email address that I get a lot of regular use out of to be blackballed.

I've run Spybot, Adaware, Win Defender, and McAfee Virus scans. No nasties were found. I ran IceSword rootkit detector but didn't see anything out of the ordinary.

Closing the affected email address and opening a new one would be prohibitively difficult.

I'm hoping that someone here may see something that I've missed. I truly appreciate any help or insight I may get. If the log proves clean, I'd also appreciate any experiences or tips anyone might have on the problem.

Thanks very much.
Bob.

hi BobTop, the log looks ok as far as malware goes. youve run spybot. and others. no trojan would slip thru all of those scans i dont think notifying isp's will do any good. if the email was originating from your computer they would notify you. over time it should subside i would think. alot of forums require you reply to a email to activate the account. just do what your doing, ignore and dont reply to any of them. shelf life

Hi Shelf Life-

Thanks for the reassurance! I've been in the biz for a long time so I've seen what damage malware can bring. I knew, deep down, that there wasn't much the ISPs would be able to do, even if they could, but it was nice to vent a little.

It's always reassuring to have another pair of eyes look through the list though, in case I missed something.

Thanks!
