Real good. Haven't noticed any more pop ups from Norton and/or Yahoo. I would usually come in and check the thread whenever I had a problem so that is why my response time slowed down over time. I was wondering though, whenever I play Guild Wars I seem to get some weird popup that seems to be related to Compaq. It doesn't come through IE or Firefox it just pops up with in a box saying Compaq (the company that manufactured my computer.) I also only get this "error" while I play Guild Wars and it tends to be really annoying because it will usually minimize my screen. Inside this Compaq box is my computer name along with some other information. I think I will be making my computers in the future to avoid problems like these.
I don't see anything in your log that would cause that….if you want we can take a look at a start-up list:

Open up HJT > Click on "Open the Misc Tools Section" > click on "Generate Startup List log"….make sure the two boxes to the right are checked > post the log back here.

It's known to cause a pop-up, don't know if it's your problem though.
Also check out the others…..you can disable them.

——————-

This is supposed to be the way to disable it:

This is a hidden scheduled task. If you go into Task Scheduler (Programs-Accessories-System Tools-Task Scheduler), then choose View and check mark the Show Hidden Tasks - then choose the time duration that you want it to show you for tasks that have run recently - I chose within the last hour (which narrowed things down). Look for InternetServices and doubleclick on it to view it's details. Now you can right click on it to delete it.

or this…………

Do this to disable it…

1.) Make sure that you are logged on as an administrator.
2.) Open the Control Panel.
3.) Under Administrative Tools, click on "Schedule tasks".
4.) On the lower part of the next screen, in the "Active Tasks" section, double-click the line that says "InternetServiceOffers".
5.) On the next screen, three (probably) tasks will come up. Right-click on the one that says "InternetServiceOffers".
6.) Then, click on "Disable".

Let me know, MrC
I got a picture of the problem.
[external image: Posted Image]
The culprit seems to be HPSysInfo.exe

I just don't know why it triggers while I play GW only and why it happens.
That seems to be a problem: Compaq pop-up while playing Guild Wars

Please CLICK HERE to download Silent Runner's.
  • Save it to the desktop.
  • Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
  • You will receive a prompt:
    • Do you want to skip supplementary searches?
      click NO
  • You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done, let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
  • Once you receive the prompt All Done!, open the text file on the desktop, copy that entire log, and paste it here.
*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

Download: Registry Search Tool from this link: (it's about 2/3s the way down)
http://billsway.com/vbspage/

Unzip and double-click "RegSrch.vbs"
Note: if your Antivirus or another program prompts about running a ".vbs" file, allow the script to run

In the open field copy and paste the below in bold then hit OK

HPSysInfo.exe

Post the results back here. MrC

Grrrr… I think someone using this computer is visiting some sites and downloading carp**… Came home today to find popups again… I have bolded what I think are the problems.

Download combofix.exe from the link below:
http://download.bleepingcomputer.com/sUBs/ComboFix.exe

Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
A window will open with a warning.
Type "Y" (and Enter) to start the fix.
When the scan completes it will open a text window.

Please download and install the 30 day trial version of AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

After it's installed…Check for updates:
Double click on the AVG-AS icon in the system tray or on the desktop> this will bring up the main program if it's not already up.

On the Main Page click the Update Tab and then Start Update.
Download and install any updates if available.

Select the Scanner icon at the top of the screen, then select the Settings tab.
Once in the Settings screen click on Recommended actions and then select Quarantine.
Under Reports
Select Automatically generate report after every scan
Un-Select Only if threats were found

Close ALL open Windows / Programs / Folders.
Open up AVG-AS
Now click the Scanner Icon on top
Click on Complete System Scan
Be patient - it takes a while to run.

IMPORTANT! Do not save the report before you have clicked the Apply all actions button. If you do, the log that is created will indicate "No action taken", making it more difficult to interpret the report. So be sure you save it only AFTER clicking the "Apply all actions" button?

Once the scan is complete do the following:
If you have any infections you will prompted, then select Apply All Actions

Next select the Reports icon at the top.
Copy and paste the scan report in your next reply.

Close AVG-AS and Reboot in Normal Mode.

Post the log from AVG AS, ComboFix, VundoFix, and a fresh HJT log, MrC
I ran the Vindu Fix, ATF Cleaner, and Hijack. I couldn't seem to run ComboFix. I believe the first time I attempted to run it I forgot to press "Y" followed by enter. Actually, if I recall correctly, I didn't even get the warning message. I left it open for approximately 1 hour and when I came back it said "Access Denied." Ever since then my computer has been stuck using the military time. After several failed attempts to run ComboFix I got irritated and decided to just run Hijack and delete what I labeled as the alleged problem. Restarted and the computer is still running fine.

When I try to run ComboFix I get a black screen labeled as "C:Windows\ Cmd". This screen switches back and far with the screen I have recognized to be ComboFix. After several times of switching back and forth it stays on the ComboFix screen with the following text: "Please Wait". It will stay like that for quite a while and I assume no action is taking place whatsoever.

My AVG trial ran out and I keep procrastinating and not buying the full version so that log is not available.

My AVG trial ran out and I keep procrastinating and not buying the full version so that log is not available.

You should still be able to get the reports.
When the trial runs out you can still use AVG-AS as a scanner…..you have to manually update it though, and also the real time protects ends.

Reboot and post a fresh HijackThis log and we'll take another look. MrC
Whenever I do the AVG scan it stops on the same place:
C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\Support\Euro…
Takes about 1 hour to get there then I usually leave it on for 3 hours just to make sure it stopped. The file is only 6 mb's so I doubt it should be staying on there for that long.

//edit

Apart from that my computer has been working fine. Apart from the temperature causing it to crash periodically.
Open up AVG-AS and click on Help > Features and Configuration > Exceptions > read about how to add one and add the file it stops on:

C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\Support\Euro…

Now it should skip it and scan the whole drive.

Let me know, MrC
