"…WEP is DEAD now, there isn't much left to fix. If your hardware cannot speak WPA and you need wireless security, you should replace your hardware (which costs money) or alternatively configure any kind of VPN…"

June 15, 2007 (Computerworld) - "…The percentage of hotspots that were secured by some kind of encryption was higher than last year. In London, the numbers improved from 76% to 81%, while New York climbed from 75% to 76% and Paris moved from 78% to 80%. WPA use also grew, Winslow said, with 49% of the business wireless networks in New York locked down with tighter security. London and Paris came in second and third, respectively, with 48% and 41% WPA usage. But a substantial percentage of business wireless networks still run sans security. Eighteen percent of the detected corporate hotspots in both Paris and London were unsecured, while New York topped that at 21%…"

October 3, 2007 - Symantec Security Response Weblog - "…One of the leading providers of DSL in Ireland has supplied users with wireless routers protected using WEP… WEP is a flawed system that can be broken within minutes by anyone with the suitable tools and the appropriate hardware. I have verified this myself in the wireless lab here in Security Response Dublin. The tools and the hardware are readily available and this is why customers should be advised to drop WEP altogether in favor of the more secure (WiFi Protected Access) WPA encryption standard. Instead users should follow the additional instructions provided by the DSL provider to switch to WPA. The WEP issue has been highlighted countless times in blogs and articles all over the Internet and I am hoping that, in light of this incident, people might start to listen and drop WEP altogether if they are concerned about the security of their wireless networks. WEP is not secure and can only be thought of as a mere obstacle that will only slow down a determined attacker. WPA on the other hand provides much better security for wireless networks and is the standard that should be adopted by everyone."
