hi nkqx57a, dont see any malware in the log. have you used a commercial antimalware scanner on your computer? shelf life
Thanks for your response…Yes, I use ZoneAlarm Pro and Avast. They sometimes find minor Ad & Spyware, but nothing major. Still having problems with w2000 Pro sp4 hang-ups, especially during sleep/standby mode. The keyboard and mouse will not respond to wake-up the system; must re-boot each time the hang-up occurs. :rant2:
hi nkqx57a,

.Yes, I use ZoneAlarm Pro and Avast

ok good. Avast is a antivirus app. does za pro include a antispyware component in the suite?
———————————
doesnt sound like this is malware related. why not just use the options to turn off monitor/hard drive after so many minutes, forget sleep/hibernation.

shelf life
Thanks again…Yes, ZA has antispyware and it runs daily. It does pickup a few and they are auto-deleted. Just cannot pinpoint the problem. Tried clean-boot, and my keyboard and mouse still hang-up after the system goes into sleep/standby mode. It must be something with W2000 and APCI; however, I cannot find anything on Microsoft knowledge base reguarding this issue. Any ideas??
Thanks! I have reviewed your link and still do not have an anwser for correcting the problem. Although, I can force my system into Stand-by Mode and it recovers just fine. However, the system will not recover once the time limit for the monitor is reached. So I believe it maybe the drivers for the monitor. I checked for new drivers, none were available. Guess I will have to live with this a little while longer, until am I able to fund the purchase of XP/Pro.
hi nkqx57a, the problem continues then. hibernation/standby problems may not be any more stable in xp. i know i suggested this but you can set the computer to turn both the hard drive and monitor off after so many minutes. contrary to popular belief your computer wont "die" sooner if you leave it running. shelf life
Hi Shelf Life, Thanks for your input. You know, there has always been something that just did not work with all the Microsoft OS. You would think that after all these years they would finally get things right for once. Yes, I had my system set to turn off the monitor, disk drives, and to go into stand-by mode after 20 minutes of in-activity. But that is where my problem is…if the system does it on its own…it hangs up the keyboard and mouse. If I force it into stand-by mode and come back later…it comes out of stand-by fine. Now you’re telling me that I should not expect better from XP. That is not what I wanted to hear. Maybe I should skip XP and go to Vista, or is Vista lacking something too? Another problem I have is with vendors…they do not keep their drivers current. And when they do have a current driver, you must go searching their website to find it, or e-mail them to get it. Anyway, thanks again. I am grateful that the problem was not a viruses or something worse. It is good to know that my system is clean.
hi nkqx57a,

go into stand-by mode after 20 minutes of in-activity. But that is where my problem is..

at the option to select system stand-by, select never. just have the monitor and hard drives power down.

forget vista unless you buy/build a new computer. its been my experience that a upgrade to vista on a computer can run into the lack of vista drivers for "older" hardware. i spent about 80 dollars buying the cheapest vista ready video card and more RAM for one of my computers. so now i get the full vista "eye candy." great, but i still cant get any sound, and no drivers for the PCI wireless network card.

shelf life
Hi Shelf Life: I finally got the money together and purchase XP/Pro/SP2. Are you aware of problems with upgrading from Win2000/Pro? I plan on backing up my system this weekend and upgrade to XP. Any suggestion?? Thanks, Neal
