I have a Dell Latitude 800 with XPsp2 running Zone Alarm Security Suite 7.0.337 and Webroot Spysweeper 5.3.2.2361
Often ZA crashes vsmon.exe seems to be a problem.
The task scheduler in windows seems to fail regularly stopping scheduled Spysweeper sweeps
and I get lots of error message on Event viewer to do with system32/hbpro.exe embedding and DCOM
I have tried a few google searches and have now arrived here with a HJT log attached.
Any help very gratefully received.
Wiggy

Hi wiggy48,

The problems you are experiencing may or may not be due to malware on your machine, but if it is malware then we'll get to the bottom of it.

The hbpro.exe errors might be related to a program called Handy Backup Pro, have you knowingly installed this program and do you use it for backing up your system?

Also, can you tell me exactly what happens when Task Scheduler failure occurs?

You have Firefox web browser installed, and the program files folder name identifies it as a beta version. I expect that it has already updated itself to the latest full version, however please check that you are up to date by opening Firefox and selecting Help->About Mozilla Firefox; it should read version 2.0.0.3

You have the British Airways and Windows Update domains in your Internet Explorer Trusted Zone. These of course aren't malicious websites, however the security settings which apply to websites that are in the Trusted Zone are much more permissive than normal, so sites should only be added if they are trusted and if it is necessary. If you need to keep these domains in your Trusted Zone so that they function normally, then leave them in place; however if they are not necessary then please remove them by following these instructions in brown:

Temporarily disable Spy Sweeper
  • Open Spysweeper and click on Options->Program Options and uncheck Load at Windows Startup
  • On the left side click Shields and then uncheck everything there
  • Uncheck Home Page Shield
  • Uncheck Automatically restore default without notification
  • Exit the program
Then, open HijackThis, choose Do a system scan only and place a checkmark next to the following lines:
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://www.britishairways.com
O15 - Trusted Zone: http://download.windowsupdate.com

Then close all open windows apart from HijackThis, press Fix checked, OK the prompt and close HijackThis.

Re-enable Spy Sweeper
  • Open Spysweeper and click on Options > Program Options and check Load at Windows Startup
  • On the left click Shields and then check everything there
  • Check Home Page Shield
  • Check Automatically restore default without notification
  • Exit the program

Next, please do an online scan with Kaspersky:

Open Kaspersky Online Scanner in Internet Explorer

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky,
Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT and then Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
  • The program will start to scan your system.
  • Once the scan is complete, click on the Save as Text button and save the file to your desktop
Note for Internet Explorer 7 users: If at any time you have trouble with the accept button of the license, click on the Zoom tool located at the right bottom of the IE window and set the zoom to 75 %. Once the license is accepted, reset to 100%.

Now open HijackThis, select Open the Misc Tools section
Press the Open Uninstall Manager... button, then press Save list...
Save the Uninstall log to your deskop and include a copy in your next response.
Now press Back and Scan and then Save log to create and save a new HijackThis log.

Once complete, please post the Kaspersky log, the uninstall log and a new HijackThis log. Also post the information I asked for at the top of this post.
