Spybot Search and Destroy found Guardian Moniter on my system. It is now in Spybots "recovery" section. All of the files, 35 of them, are now password protected by Spybot. Is there any way to tell where the files were being sent, or to open them in the recovery section without a password? How can I pull up the information that was already sent with this program. Thanks in advance for any information on this problem.
I knew what guardian monitor was, I googled it. But when I put it in the recovery section of spybot, it password protects it. I would like to be able to find out where the files were being sent from guardian monitor. Is there a way to pull the files back out of spybot and do this? I know that I can pull them out of recovery, but will I be able to trace where it was being sent?
hi shelljj,

where the files were being sent from guardian monitor

whoever installed and setup the software is the person who would be getting all the info that guardian monitor captures, including the email alerts. they could also pull up all the info right on that computer.

Is there a way to pull the files back out of spybot and do this

not that i know of.

Is this a program that can be put on a system through a mouse click, like a virus, or does someone have to physically come into my home to put it on my computer. I live alone and no one else has a key, so this is starting to scare me. I would like to find out as much as possible about how this got on here, and how to find out where they were being sent. How do I find out where they were being sent? I know I'm being repetive but like I said I'm getting pretty scared right now. Thanks for helping
hi shelljj,

first of all lets make sure that spybot is referring to the guardian monitor from that web site. sometimes different vendors come up with there own names for malware and by coincidence its something else.

i looked at the FAQ on there web site, it can run in view or stealth mode. do you see a icon on the desktop? see if you can bring it up using the default key combo:
——————
from the knowledge base:

If you can't find Guardian Monitor, it is probably running in Stealth Mode. This means that you must use the hot-key combination to launch Guardian Monitor. This combination is defined on the Run tab of the Settings window. The default hot-key combination is Alt + Shift + G. Just press these keys simultaneously to launch Guardian Monitor.

the knowledge base is here

in answer to your questions;
this is a commercial program, it would most likely take more than a click of the mouse to get it setup. if you poke around the FAQ/knowledge base you will find there are alot of different settings and options one can use to set it up. no doubt everything is password protected also.
to make sure its not something else you can do this:

post a HJT log and a spybot log in the malware removal forum so we can get more details. like this:

HJT:
hjt downloads:
* http://www.downloads.subratam.org/hijackthis.zip

* If you are unfamiliar with zip programs get HijackThis.exe here:

* http://www.merijn.org/files/HijackThis.exe

* First put hijackthis into a permanent folder.
* Do this first - go to C: and create a new permanent folder.
Example C:\AntiSpyWare or C:\hijackthis
* This is necessary to ensure you have backups should anything go wrong.
* Then put (or download - choose "save" not "run") the hijackthis.exe file in this folder.
If you downloaded a zipped HJT file unzip it to the permanent folder so you have C:\hijackthis\hijackthis.exe.
* Example of the wrong way:
C:\DOCUME~1\Name\LOCALS~1\Temp\Temporary Directory for hijackthis.zip\HijackThis.exe
* Running hjt from the wrong folder may delay assistance as your helper will have to ask for a new log.

If in doubt use this link to get HijackThis:

http://downloads.malwareremoval.com/hijackthis_sfx.exe

Save it to your desktop and then double-click to run it.
It will install the program in c:\program files\HijackThis.

* Double click HijackThis.exe.
* Hit None Of The Above, just start the program.
* Hit Scan.
* When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
* Click that, save the log somewhere, and copy/paste the log into your own new topic

Spybot search and destroy log:

Open SpyBot. On the toolbar menu select mode and switch to advanced mode. on the left….lower down, select tools,then>> at top>view report. Ensure all the options are selected near the bottom except [ ]dont check: do not report disabled or known legitimate Items, then select(near the top) the view report button.. Press export, in the save in box choose a place such as your my documents folder,or desktop then. copy/paste that log in next reply.

once you get the logs saved on your computer please start a new topic in the malware removal forum, copy/paste the logs in your reply and i will look for the logs there.

Sorry it says my post is too long, should I post it in two or just post the hijack this and let you reply then post the spybot. The spybot report is VERY long. That is the one stopping it.
hi, just post the hjt log for now, which i havent looked at yet, so the following may not be needed: bring up task manager by hitting the crtl-alt-delete keys. under the process tab see if you can see this listed: GDMgr.exe if so you can try uninstalling guardian monitor, at least it wont be active anymore, have no idea if it will remove the saved log files or not go to start>run and type in the box: c:\windows\system32\gdsys\unwise.exe will bring up the uninstaller, chose automatic to uninstall the software.
I apologize. I misunderstood what you wanted. I thought you wanted the Hijackthis log posted, so I posted it where they go. Forgive me? Let me know where you would like it posted and I'll do it again. It said my spybot log was too long and would not let me post that with it. I can try to post it in a seperate post if you want. Thanks for helping and I am sorry for the misunderstanding.
hi shelljj, no problem. i did want the hjt log and you posted it just liked i asked. i didnt look at it because i think running the uninstaller (c:\windows\system32\gdsys\unwise.exe) would remove it. in any case i will look at the log you posted. lets stay in that thread also to keep it all on track. shelf life
