Welcome to Tom Coyote . Let me tell ya, you have quite a bit of a mess going on, its a wonder your system even starts up at all.

Print this out as we will be offline for most of the fix.

Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall IWON You can also uninstall WeatherBug as it brings spyware with it, you would be better off with the program from the Weather Channel

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing :
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Once your system is clean, we suggest that you reverse this to keep critical windows files from accidently being deleted.

It's extremely important that you follow these instructions and save the report for me to see, it shows what and what not was removed along with an extensive report that may lead to other infections that are not showing on your HJT log.

Download and install the 30 day trial of AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 to your desktop. It's very important that I see the report so make sure you follow the instructions and save the log.
  • Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  • Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG and update the definition files.
  • On the main screen select the icon Update then select the Update now link.
  • Next select the Start Update button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the Scanner icon at the top of the screen, then select the Settings tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on Recommended actions and then select Quarantine <– Dont forget this
  • Under Reports
  • Select Automatically generate report after every scan
  • Un-Select Only if threats were found
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 <– Do not run the scan yet.
Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

Boot your computer into Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut Off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly.
  • This will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to SAFEMODE
  • Then press the Enter on your Keyboard
Tutorial if you need it How to boot into Safemode

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning process:
  • Launch AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the Scanner icon at the top and then the Scan tab then click on Complete System Scan.
  • AVG will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
  • Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select Apply all actions
  • Next select the Reports icon at the top.
  • Select the Save report as button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system
  • make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5

Still in Safemode, look for these files and delete them.

C:\Program Files\iWon
C:\WINDOWS\cfg32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\WinSecurity
C:\WINDOWS\system32\AlxTB1.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\en68l1ju1.dll

Reboot normally and run this system cleaner

If you don't want the Yahoo Toolbar, be sure to uncheck it during installation
Download and Install CCleaner
* Click on Run Cleaner
* Run the Issues Scan < – After it scans your system, when you click on the Fix button and it asks you to backup the Registry..Say Yes
Tutorial for CCleaner

This may be just the tip of the Iceburg as I am looking at possibly two more infections namely Look2Me and Smitfraud, we can check for those after you complete the above

I need to see the AVG Report and a New HJT log please
I uninstalled IWON and weatherbug. I have switched it to where hidden files are shown. I downloaded and installed AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5. I cannot update it though. Everytime I try to update it, I get an error. "Sorry, The server is not ready to serve. Please try again later." What should I do? Wait? Or, just go ahead and do a scan? Thanks.
The server may be busy, give it a half hour or so and try again. If its still busy in a half hour, just proceed with the rest of the fix. Ken :D
I just completed all the steps you told me to do. Here is the report from AVG and the HiJackThis Log:

Your doing very well  Sometimes asking posters for logs and such is like pulling teeth

The reason I aksked you to run Option 1 for smitfraud is because of the 016 entry you had in your HJT log
O16 - DPF: {2D2BEE6E-3C9A-4D58-B9EC-458EDB28D0F6} - http://www.drivecleaner.com/.freeware/inst…leanerstart.cab
Although I am not seeing it on your system, AVG did find some entries related to it . So lets run Option 2 for smitfraud and make sure its gone. The bogus program is DriveCleaner and it is in itself a nasty infection.

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a Notepad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Smitfraud did not find anything bad to remove and the rest of your log looks fine

PlayNowGames <– Is this a program you use and trust??

  • Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
  • Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
  • It should have an icon next to it:
    [external image: Posted Image]
    Select it and click Remove.
  • Reboot your system.
  • Then go to the Sun Microsystems and install the update
  • Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 11 <–This is what you need to download and install.
  • If you chose the online installation, it will prompt you to run the program.
  • If you chose the offline installation, you will be prompted to save the file and you can run it from wherever you saved it.
  • Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify
I like to to do the offline installation and save the setup file in case I may need it in the future

How are things running now? Are you still having issues??
Everything seems to be ok. Except for a few minor things. I keep getting this error come up when the computer starts up and the desktop is loading, it says: "Smart Bridge Alerts: MotiveSB.exe-Entry point not found The procedure entry point GetProcessImageFileNameW could not be located in the dynamic link library PSAPI.Dll" Also, when the desktop loads, the icons take longer to load. They use to load right away, now they take couple minutes or so. That is the only error I get, I am about to reinstall java so I will let you know how that goes after I am done. I didn't realize it was so out of date, it would always update on it's own, I though anyways. And that PlayNowGames is a program that runs a bunch of games my kids play, have had that for awhile now, never had any problem with it before.
A couple of things to try,

SmartBridge
System tray icon for the Virtual Assistant from AT&T_Broadband , used to communicate internet problems via the network rather than telephone. Available via desktop shortcut or Start -> Programs - not required

Try removing this entry with HJT.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Motive SmartBridge] C:\PROGRA~1\SBCSEL~1\SMARTB~1\MotiveSB.exe

Reboot and see if it helps, if not then read the following .

* SmartBridge – SmartBridge is distributing an old version of PSAPI.DLL. As a result, users may receive the following error message after installation of Internet Explore 7 Beta 2:

SmartBridge Alerts:MotiveSB.exe Entry Point Not Found

The procedure entry point GetProcessImageFileNameW could not be located in the dynamic link library PSAPI.DLL
To work around this error:
1. Navigate to the installation location for SmartBridge (C:\Program Files\SBC\Smartbridge)
2. Find PSAPI.DLL and rename it to something like PSAPIOLD.DLL
3. Reboot the system
The program will find the new PSAPI.DLL in the \Windows\System32 directory and function normally.

You can try this also to see if anything is wrong on your system.

Depending on how your manufacturer set up your system you may or may not need your Windows XP CD.
  • Click Start>Run
  • Type in sfc /scannow, hit Enter.
  • Note: there is a space between sfc and /scannow
  • This should replace any corrupted/missing system files and will hopefully fix things.
You may need your XP disc in your CD drive for this.

If the above did not help and your still having problems, you can post into one of these windows support forums that deal with that sort of thing, this forum is for removing malware only.

Here are some free programs to install, don't leave home without them
  • Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06
Check for Updates and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed.
  • Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • Win Patrol This program will warn you when any changes are being made to your system and give you the option to deny the change.
  • IE-Spyad
IE-Spyad places over 4000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • Firefox 2.0 It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.
  • Zone Alarm Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs, I wouldn't access the internet without it.
