i hope that someone can help me.....i have run a number of antivirus & anti spyware programs (ahn, pando, ewido, trend micro, spybot, macafee, zone alarm to name a few) each one finding one issue or another...each one of them were resolved...btw i didn't run them with each other...but my problem persists....i use free ram xp & what happens is that after a while the ram goes down considerably as low as 82 sometimes lower...i have 1064 of ram installed...i free the ram usiing the program but eventually it dips down again...i have had this problem in the past & the only thing that fixed it was formatting which i do not wish to do again...btw when i look at the task manager processes they seem high (although i'm inexperienced, perhaps i'm wrong) but explorer is sometimes 90 to 100,000+, msn 100,000 +, i have number of svchosts running they to seem quite high (in my opinion)....hope that this info & the log below will help...as i've stated i'm inexperienced...thank you to everone...i also went to pcpitstop heres the link...

cld :D

Welcome to Tom Coyote . Sorry about the delay in responding but we are as most times just overwhelmed with logs.

I am not looking at anything malware or virus wise on your system, those processes that are running like svchost are perfectly normal and are needed to run windows.

You will always pick up things from time to time that those programs will pick up and remove. It looks like you have two Anti Virus programs running , AhnLab and Zonelabs, thats a big no no as it will clog up your system and use up precious system resources. Its your call but you need to remove one of them.

You also have copy protection software running that could also be clogging you down.

This is what I suggest you do, first move HJT into its own folder and then run this scan by AVG Anti Spyware, if something is hiding on your system and not showing up this will flush it out. Keep in mind to follow the instructions closely as I need to see the report, without it my hands are tied. You have Ewido installed, it was bought out by AVG and is an old version, uninstall it via the Add-Remove programs in the Control Panel.

Hijackthis 1.99.1
Its important that Hijackthis is installed in its own permanent folder for backup purposes.
  • Go to where you currently have HJT installed and delete the whole folder.
  • Use the link above or the links in my signature to download HJT 1.99.1 setup to your desktop
  • Double Click on the Setup icon and by defaut it will unzip to C:\Program Files\Hijackthis

  • Open HJT Scan and Save a Log File, it will open in Notepad
  • Go to Edit> Select All.....Edit > Copy and Paste the new log into this thread.
  • Please use Posted Imageand not Posted Image
DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Download and install the 30 day trial of AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 to your desktop. It's very important that I see the report so make sure you follow the instructions and save the log.
  • Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  • Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG and update the definition files.
  • On the main screen select the icon Update then select the Update now link.
  • Next select the Start Update button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the Scanner icon at the top of the screen, then select the Settings tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on Recommended actions and then select Quarantine <-- Dont forget this
  • Under Reports
  • Select Automatically generate report after every scan
  • Un-Select Only if threats were found
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 <-- Do not run the scan yet.
Boot your computer into Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut Off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly.
  • This will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to SAFEMODE
  • Then press the Enter on your Keyboard
Tutorial if you need it How to boot into Safemode

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning process:
  • Launch AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the Scanner icon at the top and then the Scan tab then click on Complete System Scan.
  • AVG will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
  • Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select Apply all actions
  • Next select the Reports icon at the top.
  • Select the Save report as button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system
  • make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5

Let me see the AVG Report and a New HJT log please.

thank you for your response...

1) i got rid of ahn & zone alarm

2)i downloaded the new avg & scanned as you said to, but the button you said to press when done wasnt visible on my screen. so i shut down & ran it in regular mode. i dont know if it couldnt find the dialer or when i shut down everything was deleted.

3) i changed my screen properties & was able to see the apply(?) button in safe mode but the dialer wasnt found this time. don't know if it was taken care of the 1st time.

the 2 logs i'm posting is from from the 1st avg scan log & the hjt log after.

4)you said i have copy protection software running, i never installed it, what is it? how do i find it & get rid of it?

5) can i run zone alarm w/avg?

6) on reboot i recieved this error: the system DLL user32.dll was relocated in memory. the application will not run properly. the relocationoccurred because the DLL c:|WINDOWS|system32|HHCTRL.OCX occupied an address range reservedfor windows system DLL's. the vendor should be contacted for a new DLL.

could you help with this also? i have no idea what program it's referring to & can't contact a vendor...thank you so much...

C:\Program Files\Common Files\Motive\InstallHelper.exe -> Heuristic.Win32.Dialer <-- This may be a false positive because the file is related to Motive software
http://www.motive.com/

Remove this with HJT.
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page =

I just recommended to uninstall ONE AV, not both , you also need a good Firewall.

Here are Free Anti Virus programs if you need one, JUST INSTALL ONE...WITH AV..MORE IS NOT BETTER.
Free Firewall from Zonelabs
Zone Alarm Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs, I wouldn't access the internet without it.

This is your copy protection program
http://www.bleepingc....exe-16772.html

O23 - Service: ProtexisLicensing - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\system32\PSIService.exe

If you remove it , you may not be able to play your Audio CDs, I am not sure on this one. We can disable it and if it caused you problems you can always re enable it.
  • Go to Start> Run and type in services.msc then press Enter
  • Scroll down to ProtexisLicensing
  • Double Click that service to open it.
  • Click on Stop Service.
  • Then change the Startup Type to Disabled.
  • OK your way out of the program.

As far as the user32.dll, it may be related to your active x . Since this forum is for the removal of malware and the rest of your log is clean, I would post in one of these forums for help on that since its a windows issue.

How did I get infected in the first place ? Read these links and find out how to prevent getting infected again.

Here are some free programs to install, don't leave home without them
  • Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06
Check for Updates and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed.
  • Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • Win Patrol This program will warn you when any changes are being made to your system and give you the option to deny the change.
  • IE-Spyad
IE-Spyad places over 4000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • Firefox 2.0 It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.
  • Zone Alarm Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs, I wouldn't access the internet without it.
Thanks for stopping by Tom Coyote , I'm glad I was able to help you. :D

You can install all the programs on my list with no ill effects, just remember that more than ONE AV will cause problems.

If you install the free ZoneAlarm Firewall, like AV, you only need one so turn off the windows firewall.

Go to Start> Control Panel ( you will need to be in Classic view ) > Windows Firewall and turn it off.

Merge isn't working.
============================================================

guys you just helped me & now i have new problems.....programs starting to open then they just shut down...some programs have vanished from my add/remove programs list....some programs just arem't working properly.....i uninstalled AntiVir (the one with the red umbrella)....that was a real problem everytime i tried to from add/remove it wouldn't let me...i went to their forum & found a link...now i thought it was uninstalled but when i restarted it was back on the list (add/remove) & the umbrella is back too....i'm now using Avast.....my msn premium email had become disabled as well, it wouldn't let me send or recieve, but that has since resolved itself (i think).....i know my cousin had used my computer since the last fix & he goes to keygen sites & such which i had found out the hard way that it's a breeding ground for trojans & viruses....here's my log & thank you so much...

heres the updated log....could you tell me if the process that you gave me to remove & stop service on Antivir is safe for me to use on other apps that give problems uninstalling or is it something that i should'nt mess with? after i applied the actions in Hjt the programs that had disappeared from my add/remove list returned :D ...why is that? also what do you think of the Sygate firewall? one problem that i have with both Zone & Sygat is that it stops my Msn messenger form accessing the internet even after i allow it, i have to turn it off sign in then turn it back on...also when it was on i couldn't add reply here, i waited & waited & the green progress bar moved only slightly then stopped, again i had to turn off the firewall & it was fine...any advice? i couldn't find the file in c: programs Mywebsearch i even did a file search....& again thank you...hopefully this is it....

could you tell me if the process that you gave me to remove & stop service on Antivir is safe for me to use on other apps that give problems uninstalling or is it something that i should'nt mess with?

You should leave that alone unless your 101% sure you know what it is, if you disable the wrong service you can cripple your system.

You still have the copy protection service running, you can disable that if you like, just reverse it if it gives you problems.
  • Go to Start> Run and type in services.msc then press Enter
  • Scroll down to ProtexisLicensing
  • Double Click that service to open it.
  • Click on Stop Service.
  • Then change the Startup Type to Disabled.
  • OK your way out of the program.

Just like Anti Virus, you should only have ONE software firewall installed, if you had a router with a Hardware firewall it would be fine to have one of each. Sygate is a good program so keep it if you like.

The rest of your log looks fine
