I ran UnHackme and it found this rootkit, but I can't seem to remove it with that application. I went through fixes on google but none are working for me. I ran this registry edit:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\
Services\EventSrV]
"ImagePath"=-

and also tried these:

remove HACKERDEFENDER (hxdefdrv.sys, winunins.exe, etc)
remove all of the files (svhost, hxdefdrv.sys, winunins.exe winunins.ini). Then I removed all instances of .outhosts in the regestry, and both of these keys:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"Network Service"="C:\\WINNT\\svhost.exe -sr -1"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
"Network Service"="C:\\WINNT\\svhost.exe -sr -1"

But I am unable to delete any of the LEGACY_HACKERDEFENDER100 or
LEGACY_HACKERDEFENDERDRV100 keys.

I get a window that pops up and says "Cannot delete LEGACY_HACKERDEFENDER100: Error Deleting Key"
(permission issue)

1. Open Registry Editor. Click Start>Run, type REGEDIT, then press Enter.
2. In the left panel, double-click the following:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SYSTEM>CurrentControlSet> Control>SafeBoot>Minimal>EventSrV
3. In the right panel, locate and delete the entry:
@ = "Service"
4. In the left panel, double-click the following:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SYSTEM>CurrentControlSet> Control>SafeBoot>Network>EventSrV
5. In the right panel, locate and delete the entry:
@ = "Service"
6. Close Registry Editor.

Deleting the Malware File(s)

1. Right-click Start then click Search... or Find..., depending on the version of Windows you are running.
2. In the Named input box, type:
EVENT.INI
3. In the Look In drop-down list, select the drive that contains Windows, then press Enter.
4. Once located, select the file then press Delete.

Important Windows ME/XP Cleaning Instructions

Users running Windows ME and XP must disable System Restore to allow full scanning of infected systems.

Users running other Windows versions can proceed with the succeeding procedure set(s).

Running Trend Micro Antivirus

If you are currently running in safe mode, please restart your system normally before performing the following solution.

Scan your system with Trend Micro antivirus and delete files detected as BKDR_HACDEF.AT. To do this, Trend Micro customers must download the latest virus pattern file and scan their system. Other Internet users can use HouseCall, the Trend Micro online virus scanner.

but no luck. unhackme still detects this rootkit, and Active port(program) still shows my system connecting out to remote addresses.

Suggestions?

Hi KG, You did not post your hijackthis log. We need to see a hijackthis log and the results of a rootkit scanner like GMER first before working on this. Aren't you a member of MalwareRemoval? Did you ever post a hijackthis log over there? Regards, Susan

I am, and I did...however I didn't see much in the log that was worth noting. It's a computer belonging to someone else, so I'm in a hurry to get this rootkit off and get it back to him. He wants it for the weekend and I'd rather not send him home with an infected machine. I'll go ahead and post the log below:

I've just uninstalled EZ armor and Avast and thrown AVG-free on there. I'm planning to throw Comodo or Kerio firewall on there. I scanned the computer with unHackme and it reported this rootkit twice. Not sure how to get rid of this thing...I've tried various fixes on google and nothing has worked for me. Bitdefender, kaspersky, usual virus/spyware/trojan-removal software didn't work, etc

whew, lot of information. Here are some images if they help:
