Hi Lowdrag,

First, your description of symptoms appears to have been cut off, can you tell me a bit more about what problems you are experiencing and if you have any other reasons to suspect infection?

There are a couple of items in the HijackThis log I need to ask you about:

First, do you know if you or the person who looks after your computer has placed restrictions on changes to Internet Explorer settings? These could be put in place by protection software such as Spybot Search & Destroy which you have installed.
If you think there is no reason for these restrictions or wish to remove them then follow the relevant HijackThis instructions below.

Have you removed a protection program called Spy Sweeper? If so, there is a registry entry which can be cleaned by HijackThis.

If you wish to deal with either of these two issues, then we will use HijackThis to remove them, but first we will temporarily disable Pest Patrol and Windows Defender as they may prevent us making the necessary changes to your system.
Note: If you do not wish to deal with either of these issues then you do not need to disable Pest Patrol/Windows Defender or use HijackThis at this stage, please continue with the Kaspersky scan instructions

Temporarily disable Pest Patrol
Click on the Pest Patrol icon on the taskbar to open Pest Patrol
Go to Advanced Settings, and then select Active Protection.
De-select Start active protection when my computer starts
Choose Apply > Okay
Now reboot your computer normally

Temporarily disable Windows Defender:
  • Right-click on the Windows Defender icon in the system tray [it's the one with the red and yellow bulls-eye]
  • Click on Security Agents Status
  • Click on Disable real-time protection.
  • Next right-click on the Windows Defender icon in the system tray again to open the program
  • Click on the Options menu and choose Settings
  • In the left pane column click on Real Time Protection
  • Under Startup Options, uncheck Enable Security Agents on startup (recommended)
  • Under Real-time spyware threat protection, uncheck Enable real-time spyware threat protection (recommended)
  • Click the Save button and close Microsoft AntiSpyware
  • Finally, right-click on the Windows Defender icon in the system tray and select Shutdown Windows Defender
Then, open HijackThis, select Do a system scan only and place a check-mark next to the following lines:

O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present <- to remove IE restrictions

O20 - Winlogon Notify: WRNotifier - C:\WINNT\ <- If you have removed Spy Sweeper

Then close all open windows apart from HijackThis, press Fix checked, OK the prompt and then close HijackThis.

Next, please do an online scan with Kaspersky:

Click on Kaspersky Online Scanner

You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky,
Click Yes.
  • The program will launch and then begin downloading the latest definition files:
  • Once the files have been downloaded click on NEXT and then Scan Settings
  • In the scan settings make that the following are selected:
    • Scan using the following Anti-Virus database:
    Extended (if available otherwise Standard)
    • Scan Options:
    Scan Archives Scan Mail Bases
  • Click OK
  • Now under select a target to scan:Select My Computer
  • The program will start to scan your system.
  • Once the scan is complete, click on the Save as Text button and save the file to your desktop
Once complete, please post the Kaspersky log along with a new HijackThis log, and tell me a bit more about the problems you are experiencing.
