[finerhomes]

I am getting a constant pop up regarding windows\system32\winlogon.exe. I ran mcafee virus scan and it delete a number of things, but proxy-agent.as (trojan), spyware-juansearch, and adware-searchcolours keep coming back. HELP!! I downloaded hijackthis and here is the log.

Hello finerhomes and welcome to the forums here at Tom Coyote.

Please download
VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

• Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
• Click the Scan for Vundo button.
• Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
• You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click Yes
• Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
• When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
• Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from Click the Scan for Vundo button when VundoFix appears at reboot.

The Vundofix tool did it's work. Now we need to do come cleanup and I recommend a couple of scans. I also recommend that you update your Java plug in (see below).

Run HijackThis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on these:

Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune to your desktop.

Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe to open it.

Your Java Runtime Environment is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:

• Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
• Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Enviroinment (JRE) 6, The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
• Click the "Download" button to the right.
• Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
• The page will refresh.
• Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save it to your desktop (12.6 MB).
• Close any programs you may have running - especially any web browsers.
• Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
• Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
• Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
• Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
• Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.

• If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
• Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
• Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon,
  some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.

Once in Safe Mode:

Close ALL open Windows / Programs / Folders. Please start AVG Anti-Spyware and run a full scan.

  • At the bottom of the window click on the Apply all Actions button. (3)
    
• When done, click the Save Scan Report button. (4)
  • Click the Save Report as button.
  • Save the report to your Desktop.

Reboot back into Normal Mode

I ran the online scan try cleaning it, but it stopped the cleaning process at 11/16. I let it sit at that stage for over 3 hours and nothing happened. So, I did the the online scan again and it stopped the cleaning process again at 10/14. I still have it processing but it doesn't seem like it is doing anything. Also, during the scan Mcafee poped up detecting Proxyagent.as virus and removed it. Here are the other findings

The computer is running better, but it still seems a little slow. This is not my computer. I am trying to help out a college student. I am not a computer guy, so I do no if the speed of this computer is ok or not. I can compare it to mine which is a Pentium 4 CPU 3.00GHZ, 2.99GHZ, 512MB of RAM, XP Pro SP2, 145GB Hard Drive with 131GB of free space. This computer is a Celeron CPU 2.46GHz, 2.39GHz, 512MB of RAM, XP Home SP2, 34.1GB Hard Drive with 25.6GB of free space. I understand that this computer should a little slower than mine, but it is running at about 25% - 30% the speed of mine. So it seems a little slow to me. What is your opinion?

Using Internet Explorer, click on Kaspersky Online Scanner * You will be prompted to install an ActiveX component from Kaspersky, Click 'Yes'.
* The program will launch and then start to download the latest definition files.
* Once the scanner is installed and the definitions downloaded, click 'Next'.
* Now click on 'Scan Settings'
* In the scan settings make sure that the following are selected:
o Scan using the following Anti-Virus database: 'Extended' (If available, otherwise 'Standard')
o Scan Options: 'Scan Archives' and 'Scan Mail Bases'
* Click 'OK'
* Now under 'Select a target to scan' select 'My Computer'
* The scan will take a while, so be patient and let it run. Once the scan is complete, it will display whether your system has been infected.
* Now click on the 'Save as Text' button:
* Save the file to your desktop.
Please post the Kaspersky report and a new HijackThis log

When I first did the scan, I came back to find the the deck top was up and internet explorer was closed. Mcafee was poping up detecting a virus every 5 seconds. I rebooted and run mcafee scan, then reran the suggested scan. I came back and found interenet explorer closed again and no scan text was saved. I reran the scan and stopped it after it found a virus. Hopefully this will help.

• Click the Scan for Vundo button.
• Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
• You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click Yes
• Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
• When completed, it will prompt that it will reboot your computer, click OK.
• Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

Note: It is possible that VundoFix encountered a file it could not remove.
In this case, VundoFix will run on reboot, simply follow the above instructions starting from Click the Scan for Vundo button when VundoFix appears at reboot.

Hmm...Vundo didn't find anything but now that entry in your HJT log is gone

Let's do this:

Run HijackThis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on this:

Then close all windows except this one and press Fix checked.

Reboot and post a new HJT log.

Like I mentioned before, I is not my computer, but I think it is running a little slow. Also Mcafee is poping up every 30 seconds detecting Spyware-JuanSearch. I also saw Adware-SearchColours. Even though it looks to be clean, it appears that something is doing something. Thanks, Jon

Let's run the Smitfraud tool as I see signs of Winantivirus in some of the logs.

Download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri) to your Desktop.

Extract all the files to your Destop. A folder named SmitfraudFix will be created on your Desktop.



Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press Enter



This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. It will create a file named:
c:\rapport.txt


IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.
