I sadly have dialup and use NetZero HiSpeed version 8. For the past couple of days, after about 15 minutes online, I get an offline message with a dialogue box to work offline or try again. I was choosing "try again" to log back in, but today, after it redialed, my bank - I'd left the browser window open - started putting me through security hoops because it said I'd never logged in from that PC or server before. Naturally, this scared me and I shut down immediately. After shutting down NZ completely and then restarting it, I downloaded HJT and here is my log:

hi whitefordlambert, your hjt log looks ok as far as malware goes. the problem with the bank security hoops. the only thing i can think of is maybe your isp is routing you thru a proxy you havent used before, the bank sees your info but a new ip address hence all the security questions to make sure its you. thats my guess anyway. for the problem about getting knocked offline i would call netzero. shelf life

Thanks for taking a look. I really do appreciate it!!! Something's got to be going however, cause things have slowed to a crawl.... But I have been able to download some of the recommended programs and am getting ready to run them now.

I think IE7 has been three months (?). Yeah, I'm up-to-date with defragging.

I got Spybot S & D.... it found 3 minor things.... I also dld SpyBlaster & SpyGuard, but they seem to keep asking for my original Dell resource CD ????? I just hit cancel. I guess I should uninstall them since they apparently didn't get installed correctly. Do you think next time I'm supposed to renew McAfee that I should switch to AVG (I used to use that, before I bought this PC)? Also, do you think I should get Ad-Aware installed?

hi whitefordlambert,

I also dld SpyBlaster & SpyGuard

you mean spywareblaster and spywareguard?

ive never used either one, if there giving you problems then yes i would uninstall them via the add/remove programs panel. renewing mcafee is up to you. i like avg because its free. if you like using mcafee stick with it. as far as being a antivirus app, ones really not better than the other. the best one is the one you keep updated. Alot of antivirus apps these days come as a all in one suite. your mcafee may already have antispyware module in it or it could just be antivirus. i see it has a firewall form the hjt log.

Ad aware (lavasoft) is good also. really having two antimalware apps is enough. i think spybot search and destroy and ad aware are good, but you might want to try one of these also before you decide on two.

two more you might want to try/use are here:
