Hello. :)

My brother is receiving an error when he tries to access most websites. It shows up in the status bar, and it reads: res.//ieframe.dll/dnserrordiagoff.htm

Unfortunately, he's unable to reach this website as well, so I'm posting for him and trying to help him work this out over the phone. He was able to e-mail a Hijack This Log.

I'm definitely not tech savvy enough to find the problem in this list. I was wondering if someone might be able to help point out where the problem might be. He's indicated that while he can't access most sites via the address bar, he can get into some of them via a back door through his browsing history.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Hello and Welcome to the forum. I suggest you do this: Uninstall Internet Explorer 7 to return to Internet Explorer 6 on Windows XP Click "Start," and then click "Control Panel." Click "Add or Remove Programs." Check "Show Updates" at the top of the dialog box. Scroll down the list and highlight the version of Internet Explorer 7 that you are running, and then click "Change/Remove." Let me know if that worked.

Thank you. He did this per your instruction, but it's still giving the same error. He also tried installing Firefox, but he's having no luck with that either.

Click Start> Run> type in CMD tap enter key
Copy/Paste: ipconfig /flushdns <-- Note the space between g /f. It needs to be there.

Now lets check some settings on your system.
Enter your Control Panel and double-click on Network Connections

Then right click on your Default Connection
Usually Local Area Connection for Cable and DSL
Left click on Properties
Double-Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item
Select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS Servers Automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks

He tried this as well, and it didn't work, but his connection is not the standard LAN or Dial-up. He has some sort of device through Cingular that he has to plug in. (I don't have a visual on this, so I'm not really sure what it is exactly...sorry) He tried plugging into another computer, and he's having the same problem there, so now we're assuming that it's probably an error in Cingular's system. He's going to give them a call to see if they know of any reason why he would be able to access some websites and not others. Thank you for the advice. It's been greatly appreciated. :)

Have him shutdown the PC and remove the POWER cords from Modem and/or Router for about 5 minutes. The plug the power back in to all devices and turn the PC on. If still a no go then he'll need to talk to Cingular.
