Welcome back, :D

Please download LQfix.exe from one of the following locations:
    http://miekiemoes.geekstogo.com/tools/LQfix.exe

  • Save it to your desktop.
  • Double-Click LQfix.exe and click Next > Next > Install.
  • Leave the default settings, if you change them, the fix will Fail!
  • You need an active Internet Connection, so make sure your you're not blocking any connection now.
  • Now make sure the "Launch LQfix" box is checked.
  • Click the Finish button, after clicking the Finish button the fix will start.
  • Follow the on-screen prompts.
  • Your system will reboot afterwards.
  • Please be patient after the reboot, there is a script running in the background that needs to complete.
Then do a scan with HiJackThis and post a new log by using Add Reply
Hi Ken Thanks for the reply. Having a problem with his computer. Each time I launch IE, it encounters a problem and won't launch. I tried that with his wireless card and hard wiring right into my router and the effects are the same. Any thoughts on that?
beaumonde,

You may want to download the tool I posted on another computer and trasfer it by disk to the broken one, you have a nasty infection that could be part of the problem.

You can try this also.

Close any instance of Internet Explorer and Windows Explorer.
  • Go to Start> Control Panel> Internet Options . You shoud be on the General Tab
  • Delete Cookies
  • Delete Files > and offline content as well
  • Then go to the Programs Tab and Reset Web Settings

Then try this …..

  • Click Start>Run
  • Type in sfc /scannow, hit Enter.
  • Note: there is a space between sfc and /scannow
  • This should replace any corrupted/missing system files and will hopefully fix things.
You may need your XP disc in your CD drive for this.

Heres another tool for you to try

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
  • This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.

let me know how your doing.
Good Stuff! Thanks.

Here's what's been done…

Ran this. No problems.

Ran this but had to run the REVERT command to get it to fix some things. It didn't ask for his discs.
Restarted computer.
Click Start>Run
Type in sfc /scannow, hit Enter.
Note: there is a space between sfc and /scannow
This should replace any corrupted/missing system files and will hopefully fix things.
You may need your XP disc in your CD drive for this.

download this and ran it, it did what it was supposed to and then told me it was done.

OK I ran the BFU by DL'ing it on my machine and moving it over, but LQfix still wants a working internet connection which this just isn't cooperating by giving me one.

Where to now,sir?

Thanks!!!!

jim :D

You are going to have to resolve the internet connection before we can proceed, I am going to leave this thread open for you, so you can post back, I would suggest posting in Tom Coyotes "OTHER COMPUTER PROBLEMS" and try and get it resolved .

Other Computer Problems

One more option.

* From the Start menu, select Search, select All Files and Folders.
* Select More Advanced Options and place a checkmark beside Search Hidden Files and Folders option.
* Ensure that Search System Folders and Search Subfolders are also checked.
* In the All or Part of the File Name box, type ie.inf
* In the Look In drop-down menu, select C: or the letter of the hard drive that contains the Windows folder.
* Click the Search button.
* In the search results pane, find the ie.inf file located in Windows\Inf folder.
* Right click the ie.inf file and click Install on the context menu.
* Reboot the computer when the file copy process is complete.
