Hi vleslie and welcome to the forums here at Tom Coyote.

First, you are running HijackThis from a temporary directory. I recommend that you move HJT to it's own permanent folder so any backups that HJT makes will not be accidently deleted.

Please do the following:Create a new permanent folder in a convenient location that you will remember. To do this: Open Windows Explorer.
Select the drive or folder that you would like to put HJT
From the menu select File > New > Folder
Rename the folder to something you will remember (ie HJT, HijackThis, ect...)
Now move HJT to the new folder that you created.
Please download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

---------------------------------------------------------

OK, now to start the fix:

Double click on SDFix.exe. It should automatically extract a folder called SDFix to your system drive (usually C:\). Please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the SDFix folder and double click on RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y and press Enter to begin the script.
  • It will start cleaning your PC and then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any key to restart the PC.
  • Your system will take longer than normal to restart as the fixtool will be removing files.
  • When the desktop loads the Fixtool will complete the removal and display Finished.
  • Press any key to end the script and to load your desktop icons.
  • A text file should automatically open, so please copy the contents and post them here. We also need you to post a new HijackThis log

Thank you IndiGenus for your prompt response to my problem.

Since my first note to you I ran a programme called NoAdware which claimed to remove Trojens like Backdoor CMQ and it seemed to do something as I have had no further attacks since then. However I am not convinced that it has removed all of the damage so would like to continue with your advise to ensure complete removal.

Below is HijackThis#2 which is the run I have made after using NoAdware.

I then ran SDFix and I attach the logfile from this run.

Finally I attach the HijackThis#3 file which is the run I did after using SDFix.

I look forward to your comments.

Thanks for your help

Hi vleslie,

Yes it appears you have got the Trojan cleaned up. I would recommend some cleanup and running an online scan. I would also recommend that you update your Java.

Use ATF Cleaner to remove temp files, cookies, cache, ect...

Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune to your desktop.

Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe to open it.

Under Main select the following:
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox:
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time.

----------------------------------------------------------

Please go Here and do an online scan. Let it fix any infections.
Let me know what is found.

-----------------------------------------------------------

Your Java Runtime Environment is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Enviroinment (JRE) 6, The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save it to your desktop (12.6 MB).
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially any web browsers.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6-windowsi586.exe to install the newest version.
Post a new HJT log, any results from the scan, and let me know how things are running now.

Dear Dave,

Many thanks for all your help. I have carried out all your recommendations and my computer appears to be humming along nicely. Whats more I have learned a lot.

I ran ATF Cleaner and it removed some 2000 odd temp files, cookies etc.

I then ran the F Secure on line scan - Scanning Report # 1

I deleted the various "EXINJ" files and the Keygen EXE file and reran F Secure to produce Scanning Report # 2.

I updated JAVA

My HIJACK Report # 4 is the latest printout from my computer.

Once again thanks for your help

Victor

Dave Just ran the latest version of Mcaffee virus checker to find that I have a Potentially unwanted programme called PrcViewer and it cannot be completely removed. The offending items are located at: C:\Recycler\S-1-5-21-338766355-3908324609-1955392853-1006\dc10.exe C:\Documents and Settings\Victor Leslie\My Documents\Downloads\SDFix.exe I guess the PUP was introduced when I downloaded the SDFix programme. What should I do to remove the PUP. Victor

Hi Victor, That appears to be a "false positive" reported by McAfee. You can delete the SDFix program now as you should not need it any more. You should also be able to go ahead and delete that file. Dave
