I have been trying to cleanup another PC of a family member found to be having problems.
This has identified some more serious looking infection which I am looking for some assistance with

The current AVG log and HJT logs are included below for reference.

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop.

Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive%
(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Please then reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, the Advanced Options Menu should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press Enter.
  • Choose your usual account.
  • Open the extracted SDFix folder and double click RunThis.bat to start the script.
  • Type Y to begin the cleanup process.
  • It will remove any Trojan Services and Registry Entries that it finds then prompt you to press any key to Reboot.
  • Press any Key and it will restart the PC.
  • When the PC restarts the Fixtool will run again and complete the removal process then display Finished, press any key to end the script and load your desktop icons.
  • Once the desktop icons load the SDFix report will open on screen and also save into the SDFix folder as Report.txt
(Report.txt will also be copied to Clipboard ready for posting back on the forum).
  • Finally paste the contents of the Report.txt back on the forum with a new HijackThis log

Close all programs leaving only HijackThis running. Place a check against each of the following,
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [steam] steam.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [HF Security] hfsecure.exe
O16 - DPF: {33331111-1111-1111-1111-611111193457} - file://c:\ex.cab
O16 - DPF: {33331111-1111-1111-1111-611111193458} - file://c:\ex.cab
O16 - DPF: {33331111-1111-1111-1111-622221193458} - file://c:\ex.cab
O16 - DPF: {64311111-1111-1121-1111-111191113457} - file://c:\eied_s7.cab

Click on Fix Checked when finished and exit HijackThis.

Reboot in safe mode, instructions here.
Some of these files my have hidden atributes.
Click Here Should you need instructions for Showing hidden files and folders in Windows.
Once in safe mode, Click start / then my computer / local disk then follow the process tree.
Or using Windows Explorer, locate the first file right click then select delete.

Delete the following file(s) listed in bold.
(do a search for these. It'll probably be in c:\windows or c:\windows\system32.)

Hi

I did as suggested ie removing entries via HJT but could not find any ex.cab, steam.exe or hfsecure.exe files even with show all files set.

I then ran AVG av in safe mode, & detected nothing.
On restarting I ran the f-secure which found w32/winAD.fq.dropper & trojan-downloader.bat.ftp.ab
I selected the autoclean & submit

logs from f-secure & HJT below

Hi Re Antiy, its possible it got installed to clean off files a long time ago, however its not one of the the Av programs I typically use and if I have used more than one to perform a cleanup will always uninstall. Could be the relative installed it off a computer magazine ? Looks like its not a false AV prog from what I can make out, so just remove it to stop conflicts etc ? Using google I found a similar HJT with AVG and Antiy installed . This makes me question whether I should have both AVG Anti-Spyware and Windows Defender running ? regards bladesfan

I would remove it.

You can have two anti-spyware programs installed but you need to stop the active shield, of all but one.

Hi I have tried to deinstall Antiy and then remove the entry shown in HJT. When I checked the PC after the reboot indicated on the deinstall, Antiyy AliveCentre was still running and the files still exist under Program Files. Using Fix in HJT the entry keeps returning. Do I need to run in safe mode and ensure Antiyy is stopped again and then fix via HJT. Also should I remove the f-secure entry in HJT now that it has been run ? regards bladesfan

Click Start > Run type services.msc > OK
In the list of services find:
Antiy live update (Alive Auto-Update Service)
Rightclick that line and choose Properties.
On the General tab Stop and set the service to disabled.

Reboot in safe mode And delete the folder C:\Program Files\Antiy Labs

DOH didnt think of that one ! Have now disabled and removed, no entries in HJT anymore :) Having looked through the last HJT I wonder if I should remove some more apps or stop them from starting up automatically as I dont think they are generally used anymore. Happy to be guided on what may/may not affect performance on this. Otherwise the PC is responding well again at the moment & appears clean. eg of Apps perhaps affecting perf/startup etc RealPlayer QuickTime iTunes/Pod Messenger GoogleToolbarnotifier YahooToolbar SpyBot ( not installed anymore)
