can somebody help me? recently i discovered a trojan virus with Norton Internet Security 2005. It detected the trojan but would not fix, quarantine or delete it. When i scanned with NOrton AV again, NOTHING showed up. I have up-to-date virus definitions with norton but the scans keep coming up negative. Kaspersky detected nothing. Spybot SD did not find anything either.

the problems i have been having (which may or may not be related to said trojan) include:

really poor performance (my cpu usage clocks at 100% more frequently than ever ...this may be Norton sucking up my RAM)

i cannot end processes in task manager: winamp and realplayer appear many times in TM as separate processes but they will not end. winamp will not run or even reinstall. i have deleted it entirely but it stays in task manager.

svchost has like 10 processes running. i dont know why

norton keeps detecting a NEW NETWORK. i do not have a router. i have cable internet that goes right into my pc. i have not done anything to establish any new network connection. the port addess on the connecting computer keeps changing and so does the IP. i try to block all but i still get constant pop-up alerts from norton. i tried to turn off "alert me every time" but the pop-ups do not stop. i do not want to "permit always".

thanks for any help!!! here is my HJT log:

hi devourthename,

malware often gets the blame, but its not always the case.
iam working on a list of items for slow computers, see if any of it helps, it couldnt have been slow all the time, right. real player is a resource hog, if you dont use it i would uninstall it.
