Upon starting the computer and after a few minutes, Windows Media Player opens. There is no media in the drives and we are not trying to open any media files. WMP does not start playing anything but when this happens you are unable to perform any other operations. This seems to last for a long time until you are able to minimize WMP and then the computer seems to work fine (like right now). If you close WMP it just keeps opening so we have found that the only way to deal with this is to keep it minimized.
I have already tried solving this problem in the Spyware forum without any luck.
Please help!!!!!!
Hi,
Sorry to hear of the problem with Windows Media Player.
The standard approach here is to try an uninstall of WMP, do a reboot, clear out all your tempfiles, caches etc You can download ATF cleaner* by Atribune for this if you prefer an automated tool to do this for you:
(for Win XP and 2K only)
I have run ATF Cleaner but when trying to uninstall WMP it says that it willroll bak to a previous version of WMP. After doing this the problem still occurs. I have a feeling I am not uninstalling this the right way so could you please explain the steps needed to uninstall WMP.
Hi,
It looks like you are doing it correctly:
Start>Control Panel> Add and Remove Programs.
It is normal for the roll back to the previous version to be offered.
Accept this, reboot and repeat the procedure until you are as far back as possible.
Then reinstall the latest version WMP11 from here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsme…11/default.aspx
(you will need to have Windows Xp with Service Pack 2 installed on your machine.)
Let us know how you get on
Regards
