I have and old (1999) Gateway Pentium III, 646 MHz., w/Old Intel BIOS (4w4SBOXO.12A.0019.P12; 05/09/2000), which seems to have no update available; 32Gb hard drive, 384 Mb memory. Graphics Adapter [NVIDIA RIVA TNT2/TNT2 Pro (Microsoft)] with bad driver that allows pieces of previous windows hanging around, and also seems to have no update (at least that I can afford).
Program freezes are frequent; Boot-up and shut-down are heartbreakingly slow, taking about 5 minutes each; shut-down is longest, though recent addition of Windows Live OneCare antivirus/firewall/tuneup utility has considerably lengthened boot-up time. bringing up web pages in IE7 (IE6 was exactly as bad) is painfully, gut-wrenchingly slow. Have run all spyware, antivirus, etc. programs, which never seem to find anything other then the odd cookie now and again.

Will post HijackThis log after I run the program.

As promised, Below is logfile from Josepn de Caussin (jdecaussin (AT) comcast.net):
