Well, here I am. I am a helpless and confused newbie. I don't know why my computer acts weird so I am grateful for any advice . I tried to run Ad-Aware but it locks up on some file ending with …mui/dispspec. I was able to sucessfully run Spybot Search and Destroy without locking up, repairing 33 problems. I then rebooted and ran HijackThis and here is the result.

Sorry for the delay
If you still need help and haven't posted at another forum.

Download and install AVG Anti-Spyware (ewido). Then scan and save the log from the scan.
Instructions and download link can be found here.

Rescan with hijackthis and post a new log with the results from AVG .
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
I will be emailed when you reply.
Thanks for getting back to me. I will do as you have suggested. The primary misbehavior is when I will eithr right or left click on a file, the hourglass will appear, and I have to re-boot to be able to start work in a reasonable time frame. I have experimented and after a long time passes the operation will complete and I am able to continue. Sometimes the operation will not complete after say 30 minutes and I reboot. I have also run Ad-Aware and the scan will just stop at some file ending in …mui/dispec. Anyway, I'll get to work and see what happens.
OK, here we are. I assume you wanted me to clean up the 40,000+ infected items found by AVG. I did so and saved a report which was incredibly long, which I hope you did not want me to post because after I did the AVG report, I went to the folder to copy and paste it and it did the thing where I click on the report file to copy and paste it and it just sits and the hourglass runs and nothing happens for a long time so I go to another page to read and then the right click page flashes over what I am reading and I go back to the page where the report is and right back where I started. Also, right after I ran AVG it took a very long time to complete the recommended actions. I killed time by reading another web page which was working fine and eventually it did complete deleting all the bad stuff and creating the report which I can't copy for unknown reasons (too long?). What a frustration. Anyway, the Hijackthis scan ran in a few seconds and here is the report with no difficulties.
