I have a computer which is nearly always running the processor(?) fan. As you can see from the image of the system performance there is nothing particular running which takes a lot of processing power so I wondered if I have missed something. The HJT log is below. Thanks for any ideas. Paul

hi ocpaul20,

dont see much in the log to be worried about. not sure what you mean by:

which is nearly always running the processor(?) fan.

can you clarify that.

shelf life
what I mean is that there is a fan which is cycling on and off (mostly on(70%), but sometimes off(30%)). It is not the main power supply fan failing as far as I can tell, but it seems to be the fan on the processor running. Now I suppose I should assume that the whole computer is running hot and this fan is being turned on to cool it down, but it is going on and off too much for there to be a permanent temperature problem. Is there a utility which will tell me the temperature of the motherboard? It does sound like the cooling fan of a car when the engine gets too hot, except that it does not stay on, but cycles on and off intermittently. Any other ideas? Maybe I need to go away and do some more investigation, such as start up in safe mode and leave the computer with no programs running and see how much the fan comes on. thanks for you help. Paul
Actually, now I have removed my computer from an under-desk case and it seems that it was a heat problem because the cycling of the fan has mostly stopped apart from high usage such as running Spybot Search & Destroy or Adaware. Please close this file. You are all doing a great job here. Thank you for your help.
hi ocpaul20, good. you got it fixed. i wouldnt have bitcomet starting with windows. i have some file sharing tips on my website. shelf life
