Look for this for the older logs, it may or maynot still be there, if you can find it please post it as it will help me help others with this infection.

Please Note: any existing old logs will have now been renamed to NoLop!OLD.log

You have Limewire installed, these are programs that are not recommended so its your call to uninstall it, it sometimes brings bad things with it. I would not allow any of those type programs on my system.

I see that you have downloaded some codecs, downloading the wrong ones can infect your computer, there are a lot of bogus codecs going around that are really an infection so before you download any more, make sure you check out the site and make sure its reputable.

Are you still getting pop ups or are they gone??

Let me see one more HJT log please.

Ken :D
Hi ken545 …

For your info, since removing one of the infected file using NoLop program … so far (after 2 days on the internet), no encounter of any pop-ups on my pc. I checked again on my NoLopOLD's log … it shows the same log which i posted before. I'm so sorry, i should have posted the log before i run the program again on my pc. I think it over-write the log everytime you run the program.

By the way, the HostsXpert program … apart from restoring Microsoft's Host File, what other things it can do? I tried to change my homepage to www.yahoo.com. It always revert back to www.msn.com. Not forgettng, here's the latest log from HijackThis …

Ken545, really appreciate your kind assistance all along this time. Two thumbs up to you …
Good Morning,

You can remove this entry with HJT
R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =

The rest of your log looks fine

Are you changing your homepage correctly?

Go to www.yahoo.com, then with IE open, go to Tools> Internet Options and on the General Tab which will open, go to Homepage > Use Current> Apply> OK.

Then install Spybot Search and Destroy and it gives you an option to install the hosts files and also to lock your homepage.

You can use the links in my signature to download and install Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4

If you have the older version 1.3, remove it via the Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

  • During Installation, just follow all the defaults.
  • Go to Mode and click on Advanced Mode
  • Then to Updates Search for Updates
  • If you get a Bad Checksum Error, just choose a different download location.
  • Then to Settings/ File Sets and take the checkmark out of Usage Tracks
  • Then to Tools/ Hosts Files click on Add Spybot S&D Hosts Files. <– Do This
  • Then to Tools/ IE Tweeks and put a checkmark in Lock the Hosts Files and Lock the Homepage<–This
  • Then to Immunize. Up at the top by the GREEN SIGN, click on Immunize. <– This
  • Then to Search and Destroy/ Check for Problems
  • Let it scan your system
  • Then to Fix Problems and fix all it finds.
  • Reboot your computer.

How did I get infected in the first place ? Read these links and find out how to prevent getting infected again.
  • Tutorial for System Restore <– Do this first to prevent yourself from being reinfected.
  • Tom Coyote
  • TonyKlein CastleCops
  • Grinler BleepingComputer

Here are some free programs to install, don't leave home without them
  • Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06
Check for Updates and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed.
  • Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • Win Patrol This program will warn you when any changes are being made to your system and give you the option to deny the change.
  • IE-Spyad
IE-Spyad places over 4000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • Firefox 2.0 It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.
  • Zone Alarm Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs, I wouldn't access the internet without it.
Thanks for stopping by Tom Coyote , I'm glad I was able to help you. :D I will leave this thread open for a few days in case you need to post back.
