Hi everyone …

Not sure whats the status of my pc. I've Norton anti-virus, Windows Defender, Ad-Aware, Spybot (Search and Destroy), Spywareblaster and Spyware Doctor running on my pc but non of them able to detect the cause of all the pop-ups on my computer. These annoying pop-ups really slow down the pc overall …

I would be very grateful if anyone can offer their assistance … appreaciate your kind advice. Here's the log i got from "HijackThis" …

Welcome to Tom Coyote, I am not looking at anything real bad on your log, not to say something could be hidden and not showing up. Lets do a few things and see if we can uncover anything.

Run Blacklight, it will show any hidden files if there are any.

Download and Save Blacklight to your desktop:
  • Double-click blbeta.exe
  • Then accept the agreement
  • leave [X]scan through Windows Explorer checked.
  • Click > scan then > next
  • You'll see a list of all items found. There will also be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers).
  • Copy and paste this log in your next reply.
  • Don't choose the rename option yet! I want to see the log first, because legitimate items can also be present there, such as "wbemtest.exe"

Now this step is important.
There are infections being written to evade Hijackthis, so go to where you have HJT installed and right click on the HJT Icon [external image: Posted Image] and rename it to Scanner.exe, run the program to Scan and Save a Log File and post a new log into this thread.

Let me see the Blacklight log and a New HJT with it renamed.
Thanks for your kind attention ken545 …

For your info, i downloaded the "Blacklight" program and run in on my pc but it doesn't generate any log at all (i think because of it's beta version valid till Sep 2006 only). The program allow me to scan only and result shows "No hidden files found".

By the way, here's the latest log from HijackThis after renaming it to Scanner.exe …

Thanks.
The malware programs that these people write are getting harder and harder to detect. Your HJT log is still looking ok, except for this entry which points to a Private Lan Address. Do you have a router hooked up to your system?
O17 - HKLM\System\CCS\Services\Tcpip\..\{9B32CB3F-69F5-467E-A79B-891F0C6EE8FD}: NameServer = 192.168.0.1

If you look in the location that you downloaded Blacklight, whether its your desktop or to a folder, look for this file fsbl.xxxxxxx.log The numbers will be random, thats your log, but if you say it found no hidden files then lets move on.

What do the pop ups say? Do they want you to download a program. Let me know as it may tip us off to whats going on.

Lets run a couple of scans.

Please download SmitfraudFix
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.

Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.

Run Panda's ActiveScan from here and perform a full system scan.

1. Once you are on the Panda site click the "Scan your PC" button
2. A new window will open…click the big "Check Now" button
3. Enter your Country
4. Enter your State/Province
5. Enter your e-mail address and click send
6. Select either Home User or Company
7. Click the big Scan Now button
8. If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
9. It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It will take a couple minutes)
Since you are on a slow connection it will take about 15 minuites for the scanner to load.
10. Click on "Local Disks" to start the scan
11. Once scan is done, click "see report" then "save report"
Save the log someplace.
12. reboot
13. Post Panda scan results in your next reply

Let me see the Panda log and the report from Smitfraud.

Thanks. For your info, i keep getting pop-ups from web-site such as www.888.com, www.casinolasveas.com and more sites … and you're right, i'm getting my (broadband) internet connection from a router.
Smitfraud is not present, lets run the trial of Spysweeper, it should remove Lop. Lop is an older infection but it seems to be reappearing, I will have to see if there is a tool for it. In the meantime run Spysweeper, follow the instructions and make sure you download and install the trial and NOT THE FREE ONLINE SCAN.

Download the Spysweeper 5.3 Free Trial
  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and be sure to download and install the Spy Sweeper - Free Trial Download and not t the free online scan.
  • Install it using the Standard Install option. (You will be asked for your e-mail address, it is safe to give it.
  • If you receive alerts from your firewall, allow all activities for Spy Sweeper
  • You will be prompted to check for updated definitions, please do so.
  • Click on Options > Sweep Options and check Sweep all Folders on Selected drives.
  • Check Local Disc C.
  • Under What to Sweep, check every box.
  • Click on Sweep and allow it to fully scan your system.
  • When the sweep has finished, click Remove. Click Select All and then Next
  • From 'Results', select the Session Log tab.
  • Click Save to File and save the log somewhere convenient.
  • Exit Spy Sweeper.
Restart your computer, and then please copy and paste the SpySweeper log into this thread.

Post the Spysweeper report and a new HJT log.

Reboot and let me know if your still having the popups Post a new HJT log please.
Hi ken545 …

For your info, i'm still getting pop-ups (but this time all the pop-ups page not loaded), i guess some of the programs prevent it from opening. Also, in the Registry Editor (regedit) … i found lots of subfolders, with some registry (which i'm very sure not meant to be there or exist on my pc) … eg. gator.com, lop.com, 100hot.com, 180solutions.com, 7adpower.com, 888.com … up to (i think more than 100 subfolders). Try to delete them but they keep reappearing …

By the way, here's my log from HijackThis …
