Welcome to Tom Coyote, please reply to this thread only by using the Add-Reply button and not start a NEW TOPIC or else your posts will be all over the forum and we won't be able to keep track of you.

You have some bad things going on. Lets do this…..

Hijackthis 1.99.1
Its important that Hijackthis is installed in its own permanent folder for backup purposes.
  • Go to where you currently have HJT installed and delete the whole folder.
  • Use the link above or the links in my signature to download HJT 1.99.1 setup to your desktop
  • Double Click on the Setup icon and by defaut it will unzip to C:\Program Files\Hijackthis
  • Open HJT Scan and Save a Log File, it will open in Notepad
  • Go to Edit> Select All…..Edit > Copy and Paste the new log into this thread.
  • Please use the [external image: Posted Image] Button and not the New Topic Button
DO NOT have HijackThis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

We need to make sure all hidden files are showing :
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Show hidden files and folders.
  • Uncheck the Hide file extensions for known types option.
  • Uncheck the Hide protected operating system files (recommended) option.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.
Once your system is clean, we suggest that you reverse this to keep critical windows files from accidently being deleted.

Download and install the 30 day trial of AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 to your desktop.
  • Once you have downloaded AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, locate the icon on the desktop and double-click it to launch the set up program.
  • Once the setup is complete you will need run AVG and update the definition files.
  • On the main screen select the icon Update then select the Update now link.
  • Next select the Start Update button, the update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
  • Once the update has completed select the Scanner icon at the top of the screen, then select the Settings tab.
  • Once in the Settings screen click on Recommended actions and then select Quarantine <– Dont forget this
  • Under Reports
  • Select Automatically generate report after every scan
  • Un-Select Only if threats were found
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 <– Do not run the scan yet.

  • Go to Start> Run and type in services.msc then press Enter
  • Scroll down to WinTools for IE service
  • Double Click that service to open it.
  • Click on Stop Service.
  • Then change the Startup Type to Disabled.
  • OK your way out of the program.
  • Open HJT > Misc Tools > Delete an NT Service
  • Type in WinToolsSvc
  • Then click on OK, it will ask you to reboot, do so.

Boot your computer into Safemode
  • Go to Start> Shut Off your Computer> Restart
  • As the computer starts to boot-up, Tap the F8 KEY somewhat rapidly.
  • This will bring up a menu.
  • Use the Up and Down Arrow Keys to scroll up to SAFEMODE
  • Then press the Enter on your Keyboard
Tutorial if you need it How to boot into Safemode

IMPORTANT: Do not open any other windows or programs while ewido is scanning, it may interfere with the scanning process:
  • Launch AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5 by double-clicking the icon on your desktop.
  • Select the Scanner icon at the top and then the Scan tab then click on Complete System Scan.
  • AVG will now begin the scanning process, be patient this may take a little time.
  • Once the scan is complete do the following:
  • If you have any infections you will prompted, then select Apply all actions
  • Next select the Reports icon at the top.
  • Select the Save report as button in the lower left hand of the screen and save it to a text file on your system
  • make sure to remember where you saved that file, this is important
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5

Still in Safemode, look for this folder and delete the entire folder.

C:\Program Files\Common files\WinTools

Reboot normally and run this system cleaner.

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
  • This program is for XP and Windows 2000 only
  • Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
  • Under Main choose: Select All
  • Click the Empty Selected button.
Your system may start up slower after running ATF Cleaner, this is expected but will be back to normal after the first or second boot up

Post the AVG Report and a New HJT log please.
Thanks for your help, here is the first scan, I deleted the folder I had Hijack this in and used the new link for a new scan. I have a question, what are the bad things that are going on? I have a firewall and anti virus software that doesn't detect anything, anyway here is the log, I am going to start on the rest of your instructions, thanks again, Dana

hello, ok I have completed your tasks, the only thing that I couldn't do was find the folder for the wintools while I was in safemode, I went under my computer and opened folder c, and then under that folder program files, and then under that common files and wintools wasn't there, so I searched for it and still didn't come up with anything. Except for that everything else worked fine, here are my logs, Thanks, Dana

I appreciate your help, thanks again, Dana
Good Morning Dana :D

What I meant by bad things was WinTools, I didn't mean to alarm you, sorry. It looks like its gone.

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

O16 - DPF: {BCBC9371-595D-11D4-A96D-00105A1CEF6C} (View22RTE Class) - http://66.242.36.104/app/view22RTE.cab

The rest of your log looks fine, how are things running now.??
Good morning right back at ya Ken, Ok I ran hijackthis again and checked the item you requested and fixed here is my updated scan, I have a couple questions about things though, my computer still slow, we first noticed it being slower in December when we added ipod (itunes) and changed to broadband service, and since then I also notice some new things running when I pull up task master like LUCallBack, many of them, and I noticed a house call control in Hijackthis scan, what is this? is it related? Is it possible that I have programs trying to run at startup that are conflicting with each other because that is what it acts like and I know I have alot of different "protection" or anti-virus things on my computer, that's the only way I can explain the way it's acting is like a person when they are congested and can't move or think as quickly as normal? oh well here is my scan

Let me know anything at all that I can remove from my system, I only want the neccessities, also my antivirus (Norton Protection Center) keeps prompting me because an unrecognized program is trying to access the internet through an undetermined proxy? it asks me to select either always allow, or block this instance, I'm not sure why this is but it just started 3 days ago?

Thanks so much and I will be making a donation to this site on friday, it's a wonderful resource for the computer dummies like me!
Take care, Dana
Dana, :D

lucallbackproxy is a service related to Symantec Live Update.

Run this other safe cleaner.

If you don't want the Yahoo Toolbar, be sure to uncheck it during installation
Download and Install CCleaner
* Click on Run Cleaner
* Run the Issues Scan < – After it scans your system, when you click on the Fix button and it asks you to backup the Registry..Say Yes
Tutorial for CCleaner

Go to Start> All Programs> Assessories > System Tools> Disk Defragmenter. This is the Windows Disk Defragger, run this maybe once or twice a month to keep your system running good. The first time you run it, it may take awhile.

If you have the time, run this free online scanner from Panda, it may pick up something that is hidden.

Run Panda's ActiveScan from here and perform a full system scan.

1. Once you are on the Panda site click the "Scan your PC" button
2. A new window will open…click the big "Check Now" button
3. Enter your Country
4. Enter your State/Province
5. Enter your e-mail address and click send
6. Select either Home User or Company
7. Click the big Scan Now button
8. If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
9. It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It will take a couple minutes)
Since you are on a slow connection it will take about 15 minuites for the scanner to load.
10. Click on "Local Disks" to start the scan
11. Once scan is done, click "see report" then "save report"
Save the log someplace.
12. reboot
13. Post Panda scan results in your next reply
Morning to ya, Ken

Lets flush out all the entries in your System Restore program as it does fill up and cleaning it out now and then will improve performance. This is something you want to do every six months or so, not on a daily or weekly basis. I can't emphasize enough how important it is to Create a New Restore Point.

System Restore makes regular backups of all your settings, if you ever had to use this program to restore your
system to a previous date, you will be infected all over again so we need to clean out the previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore.
  • Right-click My Computer.
  • Click Properties.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • Check Turn off System Restore on all Drives.
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
Reboot your System

Turn ON System Restore.
  • Right-click My Computer.
  • ClickProperties.
  • Click the System Restore tab.
  • UN-Check Turn off System Restore on all Drives.
  • Click Apply, and then click OK.
Create a new Restore Point <– Very Important
  • Go to Start/ Control Panel/ Performance and Maintenance/ System Restore/ Create a New Restore Point
You can name the restore point anything you like, something that you can remember, You will have to be in Catagory View to see this
System Restore Tutorial <– If you need it

Dana, I just installed iTunes for my wife and everything is fine, BUT sometimes programs do conflict, What I would do is go through your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any programs ( not windows related ) that you have installed and have not used in the past 6 months, that you don't use, and that you never plan on using, get rid of them. I do this on my own system every few months to get rid of the clutter.

Here are some free programs to install, don't leave home without them
  • Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06
Check for Updates and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed.
  • Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • Win Patrol This program will warn you when any changes are being made to your system and give you the option to deny the change.
  • IE-Spyad
IE-Spyad places over 4000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • Firefox 2.0 It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.
  • Zone Alarm Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs, I wouldn't access the internet without it.
