I posted this question in another section of this forum and was asked to post a HJT log here..this was my original question…….

Hi TC,
I have a folder on my computer that i could do with a little advice on, the folder is C:\WINDOWS\security..I have a few items in there that im not sure about, and i'm hoping that you can tell me if they are meant to be there or not..The files are..BugSlayerUtil.dll, Firedaemon.exe, FireDaemonRT.dll, libeay.dll, libxml2.dll, netconfig.dll, ssleay.dll, SvcAdmin.dll, sysproc.dll, weblog32.exe and winsecure.dll…
Now i dont have any problems with my computer at the moment, all the spyware and AV scans come up clean, but i have been led to believe that some of these may be related to trojans etc, so i was hoping if you would let me know if i need to remove any, or just leave them alone or even if i should post a HJT log..
Thanks for any help you may give with this …

after reading the advice on the link i was given, i have removed all these entries now, however if you could cast your eye over the log and make sure its clean please :D

Open HijackThis > Do a System Scan Only, close your browser and all open windows, the only program or window you should have open is HijackThis, check the following entries and click on Fix Checked.

The rest of your log looks fine but lets run the free online scan from Panda that may show if something is still lurking on your computer.

Run Panda's ActiveScan from here and perform a full system scan.

1. Once you are on the Panda site click the "Scan your PC" button
2. A new window will open…click the big "Check Now" button
3. Enter your Country
4. Enter your State/Province
5. Enter your e-mail address and click send
6. Select either Home User or Company
7. Click the big Scan Now button
8. If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
9. It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It will take a couple minutes)
Since you are on a slow connection it will take about 15 minuites for the scanner to load.
10. Click on "Local Disks" to start the scan
11. Once scan is done, click "see report" then "save report"
Save the log someplace.
12. reboot
13. Post Panda scan results in your next reply

Let me see the Panda report and a new HJT log please.
Hi Ken545,
sorry for the slow reply, working too many hours lol..Thanks for your reply to my post :D
I ran Panda's active scan and it came back clean, so no log to save or post, i also ran kaspersky scan too which came back clean, so im only posting the new HJT log.

All your scans are coming up clean and your log is fine except for the above and upgrading your Java
  • Your Java is out of date and leaving your system vulnerable.
  • Go to your Add-Remove Programs in the Control Panel and uninstall any previous versions of Java (J2SE Runtime Environment)
  • It should have an icon next to it:
    [external image: Posted Image]
    Select it and click Remove.
  • Reboot your system.
  • Then go to the Sun Microsystems and install the update
  • Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 5.0 Update 11 <–This is what you need to download and install.
  • If you chose the online installation, it will prompt you to run the program.
  • If you chose the offline installation, you will be prompted to save the file and you can run it from wherever you saved it.
  • Then after install you can verify your installation here Sun Java Verify
I like to to do the offline installation and save the setup file in case I may need it in the future

Do you have any issues that you may think are malware related like pop up windows and the like, if not I will post some tips and free tools for you to install to help keep you more secure.

Ken :D
Hi again Ken545, I must have missed the new release of java, so i will get that sorted now, the items you have put in bold text, i know what they all are, but i can always get them again , so i have removed them for now. And no , i don't have any issues with my comp , thanks to people like your good self. I tend to try to keep on top of most things securitywise.. I have several programs installed on my comp, AVG , Kerio firewall, spybot, spywareblaster, windows defender, ccleaner, winpatrol and i have a firewall on my router, i also run online checks at least once a week, such as shields up ,kaspersky and the symantec checks, but anything you could suggest would be a great help… Many thanks for your time with this :D
Here you go, I made a master list to post to all my users so just disregard the ones you have already.

How did I get infected in the first place ? Read these links and find out how to prevent getting infected again.

Here are some free programs to install, don't leave home without them
  • Spybot Search and Destroy 1.4
Check for Updates/ Immunize and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Ad-Aware SE Personal 1.06
Check for Updates and run a Full System Scan on a regular basis.
  • Spyware Blaster It will prevent most spyware from ever being installed.
  • Spyware Guard It offers realtime protection from spyware installation attempts.
  • Win Patrol This program will warn you when any changes are being made to your system and give you the option to deny the change.
  • IE-Spyad
IE-Spyad places over 4000 web sites and domains in the IE Restricted list which will severely impair attempts to infect your system. It basically prevents any downloads (cookies etc) from the sites listed, although you will still be able to connect to the sites.
  • Firefox 2.0 It has more features and is a lot more secure than IE. It is a very easy and painless download and install, it will no way interfere with IE, you can use them both.
  • Zone Alarm Here is a free Firewall from Zone Labs, I wouldn't access the internet without it.
Thanks for stopping by Tom Coyote , I'm glad I was able to help you. :D
