Hi Arnaud,

it is more a question of managing many differents new programs than a question of language.

No problem Arnaud, hopefully this proves to be a good learning experience for you.

I think we are getting close here.

Run HijackThis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on this:

O2 - BHO: ASGP32.ASGP - {FA5B9933-1AE8-4A8D-9822-B20A6CA2B5EC} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\asgp32.dll

Then close all windows except this one and press Fix checked.

——————————————————————–

There are still a few of things that concern me.

1. I would like you to upload this file to Jotti for evaluation if present.

C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\Reboot.exe

Please go to http://virusscan.jotti.org, click on Browse, and upload the Reboot.exe file for analysis:

Browse to the full path of the file as I showed you above.

Then click Submit. Allow the file to be scanned, and then please copy and paste the results here for me to see.

If Jotti is too busy you can try these.

http://www.kaspersky.com/scanforvirus.html
http://www.virustotal.com/en/indexf.html

2. Were you able to delete the file from my last post with Killbox? File was C:\WINDOWS\system32\oiso.bin.

3. Did you also have a chance to clean up your Outlook Express folders? You don't want anything in there to come back and bite you later.

4. Very Important:There appears to be two Anti-Virus programs running real time protection, AVG and ClamWin. This can cause many issues including system slow down, conflicts, ect…
You can keep both installed but just use one for real-time scanning and disable the other. The disabled program can still be used for one-time scans.
In general you never want to run 2 Anti-Virus or Firewall programs at the same time. Other types of Spyware protection such as Spybot, SpywareBlaster, ect… are usually OK (and recommended) to have multiple programs running for layered protection.

So at this point let me know the results from the file scan, post a new HijackThis log, and address the questions I have asked. Also let me know how things are running.

Regards,
Dave
Hello Dave,

1/ Please find below jotti file

2/ The oiso.bin file is still under C:\WINDOWS\system32\oiso.bin and also under killbox folder.
Do you want me to manually delete the file from the first or to run again killbox?

3/ I cleaned up outlook folders

4/ I uninstalled AVG that seemed more intrusive and heavy while I have problems to update on clamwin. Was it the right choice? However the system was not visibly slower with the 2. Regarding Anti Spyware programs which ones do you recommend at the same time on the system?

5/ Please find below new HJT log

6/ Finally I have not seen until now my old internet friend, "3-4 clicks and I appear" after at least 50 clicks. It sounds good at least on the visible part of the iceberg.

Regards
Arnaud

This service is by no means 100% safe. If this scanner says 'OK', it does not necessarily mean the file is clean. There could be a whole new virus on the loose. NEVER EVER rely on one single product only, not even this service, even though it utilizes several products. Therefore, We cannot and will not be held responsible for any damage caused by results presented by this non-profit online service.

Also, we are aware of the implications of a setup like this. We are sure this whole thing is by no means scientifically correct, since this is a fully automated service (although manual correction is possible). We are aware, in spite of efforts to proactively counter these, false positives might occur, for example. We do not consider this a very big issue, so please do not e-mail us about it. This is a simple online scan service, not the university of Wichita.

Scanning can take a while, since several scanners are being used, plus the fact some scanners use very high levels of (time consuming) heuristics. Scanners used are Linux versions, differences with Windows scanners may or may not occur. Another note: some scanners will only report one virus when scanning archives with multiple pieces of malware.

Virus definitions are updated every hour. There is a 15Mb limit per file. Please refrain from uploading tons of hex-edited or repacked variants of the same sample.

Hello Arnaud,

Let's try using Avenger to rid us of that file. You can also manually delete the Killbox folder which should get rid of the backup of that file that's kept there.

1. Please download The Avenger by Swandog46 to your Desktop.
  • Click on Avenger.zip to open the file
  • Extract avenger.exe to your desktop
2. Copy all the text contained in the code box below to your Clipboard by highlighting it and pressing (Ctrl+C):

Files to delete:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\oiso.bin

Note: the above code was created specifically for this user. If you are not this user, do NOT follow these directions as they could damage the workings of your system.

3. Now, start The Avenger program by clicking on its icon on your desktop.
  • Under "Script file to execute" choose "Input Script Manually".
  • Now click on the Magnifying Glass icon which will open a new window titled "View/edit script"
  • Paste the text copied to clipboard into this window by pressing (Ctrl+V).
  • Click Done
  • Now click on the Green Light to begin execution of the script
  • Answer "Yes" twice when prompted.
4. The Avenger will automatically do the following:
  • It will Restart your computer. ( In cases where the code to execute contains "Drivers to Unload", The Avenger will actually restart your system twice.)
  • On reboot, it will briefly open a black command window on your desktop, this is normal.
  • After the restart, it creates a log file that should open with the results of Avenger’s actions. This log file will be located at C:\avenger.txt
  • The Avenger will also have backed up all the files, etc., that you asked it to delete, and will have zipped them and moved the zip archives to C:\avenger\backup.zip.
Now post a fresh HJT log and let me know how you made out and how things are running.

Dave
Hi Dave,

Please find below new HJT log.
Otherwise, none of the malwares that made me come on this site do not exist anymore.
So that's great, many thanks even if it is not finished yet, let me know.

Regards
Arnaud

Hi Arnaud,

Good to hear things are running better and you appear to be all clean.

Let's do a couple of things to finish cleaning up and I will give you some suggestions on staying clean in the future below.

Reset and Re-enable your System Restore to remove infected files that have been backed up by Windows. The files in System Restore are protected to prevent any programs changing those files. This is the only way to clean these files: (You will lose all previous restore points which may be infected anyway).

Click Start>Help and Support>Undo changes to your computer with System Restore
Select Create A Restore Point then click Next. Give it a name it and then click Create

Click Start>Run and type Cleanmgr
Click the More Options Tab.
Click Clean Up in the System Restore section.

Your Java Runtime Environment is out of date. Older versions have vulnerabilities that malware can use to infect your system. Please follow these steps to remove older version Java components and update.

Updating Java:
  • Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Enviroinment (JRE) 6, The Java SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • The page will refresh.
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation, Multi-language and save it to your desktop (12.6 MB).
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially any web browsers.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6-windowsi586.exe to install the newest version.

Hi Dave, Many thanks for all your time, precious advises and educational approach. Being upset because of my computer and those malwares when I arrived on this site, I am now nearly happy to have those problems as I discovered a modern White Night lair (or an old fashion Jedi one). Being smarter now thanks to you, I will take a better care of my computer and will give your advises to my relatives that could face the same problems, bringing my own little stone to the Internet Good and Evil fight. Many thanks again for your help. Best regards Arnaud
