Hi, it seem that I'm infected with e1.dll and msjtwinr.dll. I try to fix it with HiJackThis in debug mode with System Restoration desactivated. After the reboot HiJackThis show the fallowing log. There was also a problem with smm32.exe that avast notice me after each reboot :

23/01/2007 10:19:13 SYSTEM 1416 Sign of "Win32:Warezov-AAV [Wrm]" has been found in "C:\WINDOWS\smm32.exe\[MEW]" file.

I tried to repair and suppress the file but it always came back infected until I desactivate the System Restoration. However I dont know if it's linked with e1.dll and msjtwinr.dll witch still come back !

If any other issues arise let me know.
The process is not instant. Please continue to review my answers until I tell you your machine is clear. Absence of symptoms does not mean that everything is clear. So lets do this to the end!
Please if you decide to seek help at another forum let us know. There is a shortage of helpers and tying 2 of us up is a waste of time.
If you have any questions about any advice given here please STOP and ask!

PLEASE!!! If system restore is still disabled please re enable it first. During Malware cleaning if something goes wrong it is much better to have a bad restore point than NONE at all.

In your next reply I would like to see:
  • A new HJT log
  • The report from AVG anti Spyware
  • Is the file smm32.exe still present on your system ? I do not see any signs of it.
Hi ! and thank you for your fast answer.

This is the only forum I talked about my problem, and I'll wait your conclusions before trying to go elsewhere.

I have done any points you specify :
  • System Restore Reenabled
  • HJT fix on :

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k
    O20 - AppInit_DLLs: e1.dll
    O20 - Winlogon Notify: msjtwinr - C:\WINDOWS\system32\msjtwinr.dll

HJT show me this message :

    —————————
    HijackThis
    —————————
An unexpected error has occurred at procedure: modBackup_MakeBackup(sItem=O20 - AppInit_DLLs: e1.dll)
Error #5 - Argument ou appel de procédure incorrect

Please email me at [removed], reporting the following:
    * What you were trying to fix when the error occurred, if applicable
    * How you can reproduce the error
    * A complete HijackThis scan log, if possible

    Windows version: Windows NT 5.01.2600
    MSIE version: 6.0.2900.2180
    HijackThis version: 1.99.1

This message has been copied to your clipboard.
Click OK to continue the rest of the scan.
    —————————
    OK
    —————————

  • KillBox on :

    C:\WINDOWS\system32\msjtwinr.dll
    C:\windows\e1.dll
However e1.dll seem to be not found at this point, and only first file was treated by KillBox.

  • CCleaner done
  • AWG installed, updated and executed in debug mode

It's amazing how AVG found so more entre where Avast found nothing..

Any way, the smm32.exe didn't reappered at this time, but it use to be detected randomly after a while. I'll post if anything new append.
OK, I just found e1.dll in C:\Windows\System32. I'll repeat each points since killbox with this file. ( smm32.exe did came back anymore until now )
Maybe my location was wrong for e1.dll.. Lets try this and if not we have other tools that are sure to work.

Unfortunaly, I was not able to run Kaspersky, because it require Internet Explorer.. witch do no work properly on this computer. Another strange mistery that I did try not resolve until now because it was not requiere.

With the last logs, could you tell me if my computer is now clean ? Else I will take a time to restore IE ( a question of access rights to resolve ) and run Kasperspy.

Thnak you for your answer.
I will let you know when I think your computer is clean. I will try and do this as fast as I can.

Please double-click Killbox.exe to run it.
Select:
Delete on Reboot
then Click on the All Files button.
Please copy the file paths below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them and pressing CTRL + C (or, after highlighting, right-click and choose copy):

c:/system32/dai.exe

Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose Paste from Clipboard.

Click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click OK at any PendingFileRenameOperations prompt (and please let me know if you receive this message!).

______________________________
Make a new folder on your desktop. Call it reg finder

Download Reg Finder
Extract the files to that folder on the desktop you just created..
Go into that folder and double click RegFinder.vbs.
If any of your software gives you a warning about running this just allow it. It's safe.
Type in smm32.exe into the text field that appears and hit enter. Again some Anti virus programs flag this script just let it run.
It will let you know when its done and a log should pop up ..If it doesn't there will be a file in the folder called results.txt

Post that for me.

______________________________
Submit a file to Jotti
Please go here : http://virusscan.jotti.org/
On top of the page there is a field to add the filepath, copy and paste these filepaths: 1 at a time.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\dic.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\dai.exe

I don't think these are safe. Unless you know what they are.

Then hit Submit
The scan will take a while before the result comes up so please be patient.
Then copy the result and post it here in this thread.

If Jotti's service load is too high, you can use the following scanner instead:
http://www.virustotal.com/xhtml/index_en.html

You need to update SunJava. It is out of date and a security risk.
Updating Java:
Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6
.
  • Scroll down to where it says "Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6… allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name. It should have the [external image: Posted Image] icon next to it.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-6-windows-i586.exe to install the newest version.
___________________________
This scan should not require active x and should work.

Download and run Sysclean
  • Create a folder on your desktop called Sysclean.
  • Go to http://www.trendmicro.com/download/dcs.asp and download sysclean package to the folder you made.
  • Go to http://www.trendmicro.com/download/pattern.asp and download the Virus Pattern File (Official Pattern Release) to your desktop.
This file will be called lptXXX.zip (XXX represents the version number)
  • Unzip lptXXX.zip and you'll get the file lpt$vpn.XXX. Read here how to unzip/extract properly.
  • Move the lpt$vpn.XXX to the Sysclean-folder you created on your desktop.
  • Open the sysclean-folder and doubleclick sysclean.com.
  • Check: "Automatically clean or delete detected files".
  • Click scan.
Open your sysclean-folder and copy and paste the contents of sysclean.log in your next reply.

In your next reply I need to see.

the results from Jottis.

the report from sysclean.log

The results.txt document.
Hi,

I first use killbox with C:\system32\dai.exe and then with C:\windows\system32\dai.exe, because the first one don't exist.

Then I use reg finder with smm32.exe, here is the result.txt file :

07-01-25 16:43:11: No matches to your search terms: "smm32.exe"
were found. The search took 2 minutes and 51 seconds.

Then, I use Jotty with C:\WINDOWS\system32\dic.exe and C:\WINDOWS\system32\dai.exe.

Joddy was busy, so I switch to virustotal :

Result for dic.exe :
http://www.virustotal.com/vt/en/resultadof?b8193aa2d6f7dc9fd02e0d9ba4538ed2

and for dai.exe :
http://www.virustotal.com/vt/en/resultadof?2cb6d881768112360485128c7b6150f7

Then, I use Jotty again for dai.exe :
The file you uploaded is 0 bytes. It is very likely a firewall or a piece of malware is prohibiting you from uploading this file

After that, I updated my JRE ^^

And finaly, I runned Sysclean. Here is the log file :

Download and Install a HOSTS File
A Hosts file is a plain text file which prevents your computer from connecting to malware and spyware sites by redirecting the connection request to 127.0.0.1, which is your local address. If you use a proxy server, or if you are on AOL, be sure to read the special instructions.
You can download the MVPS Hosts File and see a HOSTS file tutorial here :
