Hello to everyone my name is Tre. I was sent here by an HP Tech in hopes of resolving an issue. Every time I restart my computer a window opens. I believe at the top it says Network settings or something to do with network I know that much. In the description it says "you (or a program) is tring to connect to such&such web site." (either aol, symantec,or one other one,I can not remember.) The options are to connect, settings, or cancel. I just always click on cancel. I have clicked on settings before to see if I have something that is set on auto to start up after a restart but I did not find anything unusual. This usually happens about three times, one for each site it is tring to access. So, I talked to a HP Tech and he pointed me in this direction. I must add that before this happened I did download a virus and/or spyware. I ran my AVG, Norton and aol spyware in safe mode. Avg found something and aol found a Trojan. All files were deleted. Now I have ran HiJacker and this is my log. Can someone help me this part? I don't know what is good and what is not. Thank you, Tre

This program will scan large amounts of files on your computer for known patterns so please be patient while it works. It will create a file named:
c:\rapport.txt

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run any other options until you are asked to do so!

Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs (AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes. Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

Please post:
C:\rapport.txt

Warning: running option #2 on a non infected computer will remove your Desktop background.

Please print out or copy these instructions/tutorial to Notepad as the internet will not be (while in Safe Mode) available to you at certain points of the removal process. Make sure to work through all the Steps in the exact order in which they are listed below. If there's anything that you don't understand, ask your question(s) before moving on with the fixes.

Reboot your computer in Safe Mode.
  • If the computer is running, shut down Windows, and then turn off the power.
  • Wait 30 seconds, and then turn the computer on.
  • Start tapping the F8 key. The Windows Advanced Options Menu appears. If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. To resolve this, restart the computer and try again.
  • Ensure that the Safe Mode option is selected.
  • Press Enter. The computer then begins to start in Safe mode.
  • Login on your usual account.
______________________________

Open the SmitfraudFix Folder, then double-click smitfraudfix.cmd file to start the tool.

[external image: Posted Image]

The tool will also check if wininet.dll is infected. If a clean version is found, you will be prompted to replace wininet.dll. Answer Yes to the question "Replace infected file ?" by typing Y and hit Enter.

A reboot may be needed to finish the cleaning process, if you computer does not restart automatically please do it yourself manually. Reboot in Safe Mode.

The tool will create a log named rapport.txt in the root of your drive, eg: Local Disk C: or partition where your operating system is installed. Please post that log along with all others requested in your next reply.

Looks good. How's it running?

You need to update SunJava.
Updating Java:
Download the latest version of Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 6.
  • Scroll down to where it says "The J2SE Runtime Environment (JRE) allows end-users to run Java applications".
  • Click the "Download" button to the right.
  • Check the box that says: "Accept License Agreement".
  • Click on the link to download Windows Offline Installation with or without Multi-language and save to your desktop.
  • Close any programs you may have running - especially your web browser.
  • Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on Add/Remove programs and remove all older versions of Java.
  • Check any item with Java Runtime Environment (JRE or J2SE) in the name. It should have the [external image: Posted Image] icon next to it.
  • Click the Remove or Change/Remove button.
  • Repeat as many times as necessary to remove each Java versions.
  • Reboot your computer once all Java components are removed.
  • Then from your desktop double-click on jre-1_5_0_09-windowsi586-p.exe to install the newest version.
Once installed you can test to see that it is in fact installed

well, it's better but I still get a Network Connections window. In it. it says "you(or a program) have requested information from update.ewido.net. Which connection do want to use?" In the box it has AOL. Which is the only connection I have. There is a box I can check that says "Don't ask me again until the next time I log on. Then there is a setting button, connect…, or cancel. I'll look in the setting again, hopefully now it's just something that needs to be changed. Do you have any idea what the normal setting should be? Dail up is the only option where I live and I only have one computer so I shouldn't need the network options to appear right? Inless you think something else is going on. What do you think? (I'll just look at the setting and see what there set on until I hear back from you.) Thanks Tre
Lets uninstall it and see what happens after that.

1.Click Start > Settings > Control Panel.
2.Next, open Add/Remove Programs and remove if listed:
AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5
When I looked at the setting it did have a box checked that said something about try to connect to area network or something like that so I unchecked it. Because Nortons was tring to do the samething also.I restarted the computer and I haven't had anything come up for the past hour or so. Do you think I did the right thing or should I continue with the unistalment? There's two other things I was wondering, I have Nortons internet security 2006 with spyware and virus protection, but considering I still got a virus, what do you suggest someone should have for the best protection? Second can you tell me in lamens term what debuging is? I never saw that on my old computer, I've tried to read on it but it still doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. Thanks for all your help Tate.

If you want to keep AVG Anti-Spyware 7.5, leave it like it is.

No one program can do it all. It's always important to keep the programs up to date. I use Grisoft AVG and it's set to update whenever there's any new updates and it updates every day.

Log looks good :D

You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

If you dont have any programs like these, I would recommend that you get them.
Spywareblaster,
Spywareguard.

Also get a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Do not use Ad-aware if you have McAfee's VirusScan and AntiSpyware

Safe Surfing. :D
