My Norton keeps reporting a virus in C:\WINDOWS\System32\mljji.dll
I can't delete it because another program is using it. Here's my HijackThis log. Help would be most welcome!

Download Pocket Killbox
http://www.atribune.org/downloads/KillBox.exe
If you already have Killbox first ensure it is this version !.

Then double-click on the killbox.exe program.

Start Killbox and click on Tools->Delete Temp Files.
Then select the option labeled Delete on reboot.

Do not close killbox, and open notepad, by clicking on Start, then Run, and typing notepad.exe and pressing the OK button.

When notepad is open, copy and paste the following bolded text into the notepad screen. You do this by highlighting each of the below bolded filenames and then pressing Control-C on your keyboard. Then click on the open notepad windows and press Control-V to paste the contents into the notepad.

C:\WINDOWS\system32\mljji.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ijjlm.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ijjlm/bak1
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ijjlm/bak2
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ijjlm/ini1
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ijjlm/ini2
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ijjlm/tmp

Return to Killbox, go to the File menu and select Paste from Clipboard.

Still in Killbox, click the red-and-white Delete File button. Click Yes at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click No at the Pending Operations prompt.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually

"copy/paste" a new log file into this thread.
Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Pocket Killbox version 2.0.0.588 Running on Windows XP as Marnie(Administrator) was started @ Saturday, January 13, 2007, 3:50 PM # 1 [Delete on Reboot] Path = C:\WINDOWS\system32\mljji.dll PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process! @ 3:55:08 PM # 2 [Delete on Reboot] Path = C:\WINDOWS\system32\mljji.dll I never got the option to say NO at pending operations, the "PendingFileRenameOperations Registry Data has been Removed by External Process!" just popped up with an OK box to click. So I tried Killbox a few more times, always the same result. My computer is running a little slow, but the most annoying factor here is the Norton message that will not go away unless I turn Norton off. Why can't I get rid of that file? mljji.dll is driving me crazy. hrinky
Yes I rebooted. Had to do it manually. Is killbox supposed to start back up after reboot, because it didn't do anything after the restart.

Reboot and "copy/paste" a new HijackThis log file into this thread.

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
It looks like that fixed it! Norton doesn't detect a virus at startup anymore and everything else seems fine and it looks like it is gone from the HJT log. Thank you so much! You are the best!

You can remove any programs I had you install

Log looks good :D

You need to create a new Clean restore point.

Note: This will remove all previous Restore Points

Turn off System Restore:

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Restart your computer, turn it back on.

On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Remove the Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Check "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, Uncheck "Show hidden files and folders."
Check "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

If you dont have any programs like these, I would recommend that you get them.
Spywareblaster,
Spywareguard.

Also get a FREE FIREWALL and FREE ANTI VIRUS if you need one.

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system.

Keep your system up to date and run Adaware & Spybot, once a week works, and hopefully you will be ok from here on. Both are available below.

Do not use Ad-aware if you have McAfee's VirusScan and AntiSpyware

Safe Surfing. :D

I would also suggest you read this:
So how did I get infected in the first place?
