Hi lauren-briggsand welcome to Tom Coyote forums

I am currently looking over your log. As I am an Undergraduate, everything that I post to you must be checked by an Admin or Moderator. Thus, there may be a tiny bit of a delay between posts, but it shouldn't be too long. I will post back shortly with a potential fix.

Thanks for your patience!
dan
Hi lauren-briggs

Please note that HJT is running from a temp folder
You currently are running HijackThis from here: C:\DOCUME~1\paul\LOCALS~1\Temp\Temporary Directory 1 for hijackthis.zip\HijackThis.exe

Please Create a new folder either here:
C:\ or create a folder on your desktop and call it this folder HJT and place "HijackThis.exe" in that folder.

DO NOT follow the steps below until you have moved HijackThis
___________________

Your log shows that you have two different antivirus programs installed and running side-by-side (Norton and AVG7).
Do not attempt to run two entirely different 'on-access' resident scanner anti-virus products simultaneously. It is simply an accident waiting to happen. Having more than one antivirus program running and "active in memory" will most definitely use far more additional resources, adversely affecting your access to files and causing overall system slowdowns.

Most of the popular anti-virus products (when running together) will "fight for control" over the user's machine, and it is this conflict that will create slowing the system speed as well as other serious compatibility problems. This can also create registry conflicts as well as causing false virus alerts - or worse, missing alerts entirely!

Additionally, many of these types of programs simply do not "play nice" or work well with each other. Unfortunately, the only thing many of these types of security applications seem to detest more than potentially harmful viruses - is other antivirus applications running simultaneously together with them. Also, not all AV programs can be installed as secondary scanners, and sometimes installing separate AV programs will cause a conflict or the program's installer will even try to 'uninstall' any other anti-virus programs during the installation.

Therefore, my advice would be to pick one (or the other) of your antivrius programs to use and then use Windows Add/Remove Programs to uninstall the one that you do not want to use anymore.

Please include new HJT log,
in your next post
Thanks dan
Hi thanks for helping but I can't find the folder, C:\DOCUME~1\paul\LOCALS~1\Temp\Temporary Directory 1 for hijackthis.zip\HijackThis.exe, to move the HiJackThis.exe. Once I have moved it, I will remove AVG from my computer and post another log. Please help me find the folder.
I have now moved the file HiJackThis.exe from temp files and deleted AVG here is the latest HJT Log:

Hi lauren-briggs

Your doing ok,but we need to put HJT into a permanent folder.
Create a folder on the desktop, right click on the desktop new folder and name it HJT. Now locate "C:\Documents and Settings\paul\Desktop\HijackThis.exe" then drag and dropHijackThis.exe into that new folder on the desktop.
The reason I ask for this is, unless HJT is in its own folder it will not make backups and should things not go the way we want them to, we will be able to return to a point where we can start again.
______________

You have a LOP infection that often comes together with Messenger Plus. To remove it we will try the simple way first.

1. Go to Add/Remove programs. Double click on
Messenger Plus!
(or click on Remove)

2. The
Messenger Plus! - Setup
is now displayed. Click on the Uninstall button. Note: options displayed on the first screen are not related to the sponsor program.

3. The sponsor screen is now displayed (if you don't see it, search for it in your Task Bar). To prove that someone is currently reading the screen, you have to type the code that is displayed. Once you enter the code, press Uninstall.

4. If you entered the code properly, the program will ask you to confirm that you want to uninstall. You must answer
Yes
to this question
, else, you won't have another chance of uninstalling.

5. To complete the uninstallation, follow the instructions that are displayed (the first one is to close all your Internet Explorer windows, that's very important). When everything is complete, restart your computer and, hopefully one nasty infection is gone.

Download NoLop.exe to your Desktop.
  • First close any other programs you have running as this will require a reboot
  • Double click NoLop.exe to run it.
  • Now click the button labelled "Search and Destroy"
    <>
  • When scanning is finished you will be prompted to reboot only if infected, Click OK
  • Now click the "REBOOT" Button.
  • A Message should popup from NoLop. If not, double click the program again and it will finish.
  • Please post the contents of C:\NoLop.log later.
NOTE :
  • If you receive an error, "mscomctl.ocx or one of its dependencies are not correctly registered," please download mscomctl.ocx to C:\WINDOWS\system32\ folder then rerun the program.
Please include new HJT log, NoLop.log
in your next post
Thanks dan
