I have Icon Tray 2001 v.6.1, and I cannot get rid of it. Also, ever since I installed Symantec Antivirus, my outlook 2007 (beta) is slow reading e-mail from pop. Help?

Hi Matthew,

I don't see any Malware related issues here but let's try some things.

What have you tried in removing that program? Does using Windows Add or Remove Programs actually fail? And if so what are any messages you see? I looked into that program a bit and the "company" that produces it does not impress me. I would definitely get rid of it if possible. The homepage for the company that makes the program is here:
http://www.cdsoftwaresolutions.com/
There is an email there you could try getting in touch with the guy and see if there is some special "uninstaller" for that program. Though I don't believe it is Malware I don't see any reason it shouldn't be able to be uninstalled.

As far as Symantec slowing down your email…take a look at this link:

http://www.thepcspy.com/articles/other/wha…_windows_down/5

If you are having general slow down issues there are many things to try. Take a look here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/s…estoreperf.mspx

Download AVG Anti-Spyware from HERE and save that file to your desktop.
This is a 30 day trial of the program. The program can still be used after 30 days but loses some of the features such as real time scanning.
  • Load AVG Anti-Spyware and then click the Update tab at the top. Under Manual Update click Start update.
  • After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
  • Then click on the Scanner tab at the top. Click the "Settings" tab and then change the recommended action to Quarantine and click Automatically generate report after every scan. Click back to the "Scan" tab and then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run, so be prepared.
  • AVG Anti-Spyware will list any infections found on the left hand side. When the scan has finished, it will automatically set the recommended action. Click the Apply all actions button. AVG Anti-Spyware will display "All actions have been applied" on the right hand side.
  • Click on "Save Report", then "Save Report As". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again (like on the Desktop).
  • Close AVG Anti-Spyware and reboot!
Try ATF Cleaner to clean up temp files, cache, cookies, ect…:
Download ATF (Atribune Temp File) Cleaner© by Atribune to your desktop.

Double-click ATF Cleaner.exe to open it.

Under Main select the following:
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox:
Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click NO at the prompt.

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time.
Thanks for your detailed response. The information is very helpful. However, it's not my computer that's slow, it's Microsoft Outlook 2007 Beta. And, it's only slow when I'm switching between one e-mail (often with an attachment) and another e-mail. I do use the preview option, but it's the same problem when I turn this option off. It didn't happen until I installed Symantec. I did use Avast, but I got a free version and subscription to Symantec. I think I might need to switch back!
Hi Matthew, Sorry I wasn't clear. I didn't mean your computer was slow. I meant to point out that Symantec/Norton products are the top resource hogs on the market, as it covers it that link. I did give a little more info. on general computer slowness issues I think because we see so much of that here, sorry. Yes, if this started happening only because you installed the Symantec product and you're not happy with the performance then by all means switch back to Avast (it's what I happily use). As it points out in that link Symantec/Norton is the #1 resource hog. Were you able to un-install the Icon Tray 2001 program? Regards Dave
Sorry, I forgot about Icon Tray. I did e-mail the guy at cdsolutions several days ago, but the e-mail was returned. I tried the yahoo e-mail address yesterday. The program doesn't appear in the add/remove, and it doesn't show up in the start menu. I don't know what the issue is with that!
It doesn't surprise me Matthew that there is no response from him. Even though that website is still up when I tried to use the links on it they just wouldn't respond. I don't think he's "doing business" anymore and it doesn't surprise me.

You can do this:

Run hijackthis. Hit None of the above, Click Do a System Scan Only. Put a Check in the box on the left side on this entry:

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [IconTray2001] C:\Program Files\CD Software Solutions\Icon Tray 2001\IconTray.exe

Then close all windows except this one and press Fix checked.

Use Windows Explorer to delete the folder if it still exists.

C:\Program Files\CD Software Solutions<–Delete this folder

There may be other entries in the registry that you could search for and delete but I wouldn't do this unless you are very familiar with working with the registry and have good back ups. It probably isn't worth it.

Good luck,
Dave
