My problems:
1. Slow as all get out
2. I can't print. I purchased a new printer and did the whole chat with HP help/ installed printer ports etc… to no avail, it must be the computer.
3. Whenever I open the start menu, there is a bubble that says: "Some items cannot be shown"
4. Whenever I startup, there are about three prompts that say a certain Backweb/ tobedeleted file(s) cannnot be found…

I have recently deleted some programs (EAC, Music Match) to free up space. Other than that, I don't know what to do.

I am running XP on a HP pavillion7955.

Should I post the two AVG Anti-Spyware reports? They are quite long.

You guys are all real helpful, and are providing a much needed service. Thanks in advance.

Adam
Hi adam02and welcome to Tom Coyote forums

I am currently looking over your log. As I am an Undergraduate, everything that I post to you must be checked by an Admin or Moderator. Thus, there may be a tiny bit of a delay between posts, but it shouldn't be too long. I will post back shortly with a potential fix.

Thanks for your patience!
Hi adam02

First, there are a few very important security program that you are In need of. These programs are essential to prevent you from getting reinfected:

* Use an Anti Virus Software - It is very important that your computer has an anti-virus software running on your machine. Please download and install one antivirus program from the following list, download the latest signatures, and do a full system scan.

o Anti-Virus
o Avast Home Edition
* Use a Firewall - I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer. Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over. Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly. For more info, check http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial60.html]This webpage out. Two free ones available for personal use:

o Kerio Personal Firewall
o ZoneAlarm

Without these programs, you will be quickly reinfected, and we would just be wasting our time trying to clean your computer.

Please include new HJT log,
in your next post
Thanks dan
Thanks for the help. I have installed the avast virus protection (and ran it) along with the keiro firewall, which is on.
Thank you again.

Hi adam02

You are running a P2P BitTorrent filesharing programme.
  • Many of these programmes come with unwanted components bundled with them.
  • If you wish to find out whether the one you're using does click here.

Please note: Even if you are using a "safe" P2P programme, it is only the programme that is safe. You will be sharing files from uncertified sources, and these are often infected. The bad guys use P2P filesharing as a major conduit to spread their wares.

My recommendation is you uninstall it.

Ok, we need to stop a couple of processes

We need to stop some Windows Processes
- Run HiJackThis then…
  • Click Config… button
  • Click Misc Tools button
  • Click Open process manager button
  • While holding down the CTRL key, locate (if present) and click on (highlight) each of the following…

    C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\TBPS.exe
    C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\PIB.exe
    c:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\radio.exe
    c:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\WSG.exe
    C:\PROGRA~1\Toolbar\TBPSSvc.exe
  • Double-check to make sure that only those item(s) above are highlighted, then click
    Kill process button
  • Click Refresh Check to make sure they are not listed
  • Repeat this step if any remain
  • Close HijackThis

Please copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the following text in the quote to Notepad. Save it as
All Files and name it FixServices.bat. Please save it on your desktop.

Quote:
@echo off
sc stop TBPSSvc
sc delete TBPSSvc
exit

Double click FixServices.bat. A window will open and close. This is normal.

Delete bad programs
  • Click Start
  • Go to Control Panel
  • Go to Add/Remove Programs
  • Find and click Remove for the following (if present). It could be that they have a space or something between it , but it has to look like it:

  • Toolbar
    WinTools
    Media Access
**Take care when answering any questions posed by an uninstaller. Some questions may be worded to deceive you into keeping the program.

Run HijackThis, select Do a system scan only and place checks against the following entries (if they are still present)

Hiadam02

Have you decided to keep your p2p program? please let me know
It's important you carry out all instruction I give from the returned log some items I asked to be deleted still remain.

Have you set the restrictions on this :O6 - HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Control Panel present
If not have HJT fix it.
With regards to your print problem, can you be specific, what error messages you are getting if any?
anything which may help, how long have you had the problem when trying to print.?
Just helps me a little.

Thanks dan
I think I got all the stuff removed. I jad to hunt for a few things but I think I got them. As far as the printing problem goes, when I comand the computer to print, either from the internet or from Word/ Word processer it goes to the printer and the printer merely shoots out a blank piece of paper. I recieve no errors or anything, just one sheet of paper regardless of the size of the document. This has been happening for the past year or so. I talked to HP online, reistalled the printing ports etc… but to no avail, I figure the error is the computer itself since I bought a new printer and the problem remains. I read somewhere that a TBPS infection may have something to do with this, but I don't know… Can HJT show if my printer is set up properly and that the communication between the printer and computer is correct?

Here is the new HJT log.

Thanks for your patience and help.

Hi adam02

Can HJT show if my printer is set up properly and that the communication between the printer and computer is correct?

HJT is a good tool but it won't give me that type of information unfortunately.

Well done your returned log has come back clean of malware.
As for your outstanding issues it may be time for me to hand you over to experts in that field , who should be able to give you good advise to help with your print issue.
My area of expertise is in malware and not hardware / system issues.
Apart from this Issue with your system how is the machine running?

These links maybe helpfull to help resolve your other issues: virtualdr pcpitstop
It seems to be running fine, it certainly isn't as slow as it once was. I will consult those links, thanks. If they don't help, I think I will start a new topic on that specific issue. Thanks so much for all the help and your time. Adam
