Each time I load IE the home page directs me to http://xtoff/. When I go into tools and internet options the home page is set to Google?

I have Followed the instructions in "Before Posting a HijackThisLog "self Help", For Windows 2000 and XP version"

I will attach the logs from AVG and HiJackThis as instructed. I will add that I did not run Ad-aware as I have McAfee virus protection (instructions indicated this).

I have also done the maintenance I would normally do. I ran Spybot, and did not find anything. My anti virus is up to date and I am clean. I have also deleted all restore points.

Her are the logs:

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you
Hello and welcome to the forum.

You may want to print out these instructions for reference, since you will have to restart your computer during the fix.

Double-click My Computer.
Click the Tools menu, and then click Folder Options.
Click the View tab.
Clear "Hide file extensions for known file types."
Under the "Hidden files" folder, select "Show hidden files and folders."
Clear "Hide protected operating system files."
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Please do not delete anything unless instructed to.

Please download FixWareout from one of these sites:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/lonny/Fixwareout.exe

Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so.
Your system may take longer than usual to load; this is normal.

Once the desktop loads a text that will open (report.txt) Please save this file, you'll need to post it with a new HijackThis log.

Next:
Click Start> Run> type in CMD tap enter key
Copy/Paste: ipconfig /flushdns

Now lets check some settings on your system.
Enter your Control Panel and double-click on Network Connections

Then right click on your Default Connection
Usually Local Area Connection for Cable and DSL
Left click on Properties
Double-Click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item
Select the radio dial that says Obtain DNS Servers Automatically
Press OK twice to get out of the properties screen and reboot if it asks

Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
Download - ATF Cleaner»
Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

(If you use FireFox or the Opera browser
To keep saved passwords, click No at the prompt.)

It's normal after running ATF cleaner that the PC will be slower to boot the first time or two

Reboot and "copy/paste" the text file (report.txt) and a new Hijackthis log

Also please describe how your computer behaves at the moment.
Wow, that was a fast response.

I have followed your instructions and will post the logs next. Everything went smooth, no errors or anything.

The PC seems fine except that I am still directed to that xtoff address.

Look in your McAfee programs and see if there's a setting blocking the home page settings. I know there's a setting in Zone Alarm, but I don't know if McAfee has something like that or not. Zone Alarm: Program control > Main > Program control > custom > OS firewall > Change internet explorer homepage. If this is set to block (big red 'X'), then it's impossible to change the homepage. to fix, click the 'X' and change it to '?' (ask).

I searched for that setting in mcafee but could not find one. I did find one in spy bot but it was not enabled. I also noticed something else, every time I double click IE all it would do was add a desktop shortcut, but not open. This seemed to be new? I went to Microsoft and downloaded and re-installed IE 7 and the issue seemed to go away. I'm concerned however that I still have an issue thats just hidden now.

Should I just drop it?

I did find one in spy bot but it was not enabled.

If your homepage is now what you want, Id enable that one in Spy Bot.

There are a number of ant-spyware / firewall programs that will prevent a browser hijack.

IMO, I wouldn't worry about it now. Could have been a issue with IE7.
